PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Philadelphia Department of Public Health’s Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention (CDIP), in partnership with Esperanza, has announced a new funding opportunity to support community-based projects that improve health and climate resilience in Hunting Park and surrounding neighborhoods.
Founded in 1986, Esperanza serves underserved and marginalized communities through education, community and economic development, the arts, and social impact programs. Today, the organization employs more than 750 people and serves approximately 35,000 individuals annually while advancing its vision of a thriving “community of opportunity” in Hunting Park.
A total of $50,000 in grant funding is available, with awards ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 for nonprofit organizations serving Hunting Park, Feltonville, and Juniata (ZIP codes 19122, 19124, 19133 south of Lehigh Avenue, and 19140). Funded projects will be implemented between January and December 2027.

The 2026 Request for Proposals focuses on climate resilience and health, encouraging organizations to develop solutions that address climate-related challenges affecting community well-being. Priority areas include:
- Extreme heat and heat-related illnesses
- Poor air quality and wildfire smoke impacts
- Flooding and severe weather preparedness
- Energy security and reliable access to heating and cooling
- Community education on climate and health issues
- Green spaces, rain gardens, and shaded areas
- Neighborhood sanitation and environmental health initiatives
Projects must be community-driven, include meaningful resident engagement, and create lasting health benefits for Hunting Park residents.
Organizations interested in applying must submit an initial project concept by September 30, 2026. Funding decisions will be announced before the end of December 2026, with grant funds distributed in January 2027.
An informational session will be held on September 22, 2026, at noon, both in person at Esperanza, 4261 N. 5th Street, Philadelphia, and virtually via Zoom.
