As the Philadelphia region prepares to welcome the world during the summer of 2026, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is mobilizing an unprecedented regional transit operation to support the FIFA World Cup 2026™ and other major summer events including PGA Championship, 250th Semiquincentennial and the MLB-All Star Game.

Philadelphia will host six (6) matches for FIFA World Cup 2026™, including a Round of 16 match on July 4, 2026, when Philadelphia will be the epicenter of America’s 250th Anniversary celebration.

SEPTA’s preparations by the numbers

On match days, SEPTA will be fully activated and mobilized to ensure residents, visitors, and fans can get to where they want to go.

Game Day Preparedness

  • 55,000-57,000 projected total passenger trips on the B Line for each match
  • 30,000+ cameras and Virtual Patrol Unit supporting uniformed patrol
  • 15,000 riders per hour per match on the B Line for event service
  • 10,000 feet of parade fencing for queuing at key stations throughout system
  • 488 hours of ambassador support dedicated for 4th of July service throughout key stations
  • 10 additional pre-event B Line trains capable of carrying an additional 9,000 riders each match
  • 24-hour operating span on the B and L Lines during match days
  • 17 station-specific coordination leads assigned across 17 key SEPTA system stations on event days
  • 4–5-minute targeted train frequency on B Line during peak periods
  • 15-minute enhanced frequency for Routes 32 and 48 to FIFA Fan Festival at Lemon Hill
  • 100 Transit Police officers deployed across the system
  • 46 additional Regional Rail trains for additional 4th of July match and event capacity
  • 24/7 shift coverage of cleaning crews deployed for continuous station maintenance
  • 15-minute average travel time from Center City to stadium complex on the B Line

Agencywide Investment and Readiness for Summer 2026

  • $5.5 million secured in federal operating assistance for SEPTA for 2026 events
  • 10,000+ wayfinding signs, digital displays, and passenger information updates being installed systemwide
  • 5,180 total hours of ambassador deployment throughout the Summer Major Event period
  • 1,295 ambassador shifts assisting riders throughout the system throughout the Summer Major Event period
  • 1000+ ambassador shifts dedicated to assisting passengers during the special event period (June 13 through July 19)
  • 100% of vehicles and pressure washing units will be serviced by June 1, 2026, to help ensure equipment reliability
  • 1000 Ambassador volunteer pins acquired identifying ambassadors who can welcome visitors in Spanish, French, Portuguese, Arabic, Haitian Creole, and/or American Sign Language (ASL).
  • 200 Philadelphia Fire Department personnel provided familiarization training on the B Line
  • 112 hours across 28 sessions of in-person training delivered to over 700 ambassadors
  • 30 Stations receiving deep cleaning in the 30 days leading up to 2026 summer events
  • 9+ days of Command Center activation for centralized and integrated operations oversight across SEPTA
  • 8 special-event operations plans developed for stadium, fan festival, and airport operations
  • 2 emergency preparedness and security exercises completed in advance of FIFA World Cup 2026™
  • 1 region connected through public transportation during one of the largest international events in Philadelphia history
