HARRISBURG, Pa. – Brandon Dukes was sworn in today as the new state representative for Pennsylvania’s 12th Legislative District in Butler County, following his victory in a special election on Aug. 18.

Dukes made history by becoming the first Democrat to represent the district in decades, marking a significant political shift in the traditionally Republican-leaning area.

“I am so grateful to serve this district that I call home,” Dukes said. “I look forward to providing my fellow residents with crucial state government services and advocating for their needs here in Harrisburg. I’d also like to thank my fellow House lawmakers, who have welcomed me with open arms as we work toward a better commonwealth.”

A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Dukes spent 16 years working in the financial industry before entering public office. He lives in Cranberry Township with his wife and daughter.

Among his top priorities are modernizing infrastructure, improving affordability for working families, and increasing investment in educational institutions, including community colleges and trade schools.

House Speaker Joanna McClinton welcomed Dukes to the General Assembly, highlighting the importance of his addition to the House Democratic Caucus.

The 12th Legislative District includes Cranberry, Adams and Jackson townships, as well as the boroughs of Callery, Evans City, Harmony, Mars, Seven Fields, Valencia and Zelienople.

Historic Victory

Dukes’ election represents a notable breakthrough for Democrats in Butler County, where the party had not held the seat for decades. His swearing-in strengthens the Democratic majority in the Pennsylvania House and brings a new voice to legislative discussions on education, economic development and infrastructure across the commonwealth.
