MEXICO INDEPENDENCE FEST

Celebrate Mexican Independence Day (officially Friday, September 16, 2022) at this Sunday celebration on the waterfront — part of PECO’s free multicultural series. Mexican bands La Prendida and El Retoño headline the event, which also features performances from the mariachi band of Pedro Villaseñor, singer Alex Moreno and others. Local eateries, including Pachecorico Restaurante, Taquería Atexquita and Los Gallos, are on hand serving up authentic Mexican food and drink. FRINGE FESTIVAL LATINX 2044

Philly Fringe Festival: Latinx 2044: A Hispanic Heritage Month Stand-up Special with Che Guerrero at Theatre Exile. Get ready to laugh! Comedian Che Guerrero gathers some of the region’s top Spanish-speaking comedians for this stand-up comedy special — part of the 2022 Philadelphia Fringe Festival. MERCADO CULTURAL AT CHERRY STREET PIER

Head to this Sunday pop-up market to shop handmade crafts, clothing and other creations from minority-owned businesses. DINE LATINO RESTAURANT WEEK

Organized by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Dine Latino Restaurant Week aims to boost business at the region’s can’t-miss Latino-owned restaurants. The fall edition of this twice-a-year dining event takes place during National Hispanic Heritage Month, giving even more reason to celebrate. The deal is straightforward: Buy two dinner entrees and receive an appetizer or dessert for free. Participating restaurants include Casa Mexico in South Philly, Bar Bombon in Center City and Cafe con Leche in Bucks County. Where: Various locations including Casa Mexico, 1134 S. 9th Street. TACO FIESTA AT BOK BAR

It’s a rooftop fiesta! This ticketed event — organized by the Association of Mexican Business Owners of Philadelphia — features signature dishes from some of its member restaurants, as well as original artwork and cultural activities. SIEMPRE SALSA HERITAGE MONTH

4TH LATIN AMERICAN BOOK FAIR

The LABF Organizing Committee is pleased to announce the 4th edition of the Latin American Book Fair in Philadelphia. The fourth annual Latin Book Fair in LOVE Park connects Latino authors, illustrators and designers to Spanish-speaking readers of all ages throughout the city. The event, which features book launches, live storytelling and musical performances, is a daylong celebration of language, heritage and culture. GUIDED SPANISH-LANGUAGE TOUR

Guided Spanish-Language Tour of Core Galleries at Museum of the American Revolution. The Museum of the American Revolution celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with a special Spanish-language tour of its core galleries. The guided tour is translated into Spanish by Dr. Juan Giarrizzo, a native of Venezuela who graduated from the museum’s first citizenship class in 2019. The tour highlights diverse stories from the Revolutionary era and is included with regular admission. The museum also offers free, Spanish-language audio tours year-round. PUERTO RICAN DAY PARADE

Puerto Rican Day Parade on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Thousands of spectators line the Benjamin Franklin Parkway for this annual parade and celebration of Latino culture. More than 1,500 marchers make their way down the parkway each year, performing traditional Latino music, poetry, and dance. The theme for the year’s event is “The Puerto Rican Dreamers.” Where: Benjamin Franklin Parkway & North 21st Street. When: Sunday, September 25, 2022, Noon to 3 p.m.

MORIVIVI LATINO CANCER SUPPORT GROUP

Morivivi Latino Cancer Support Group celebrará su evento especial “Tocando Puertas, Salvando Vidas”. En 2014, Marla Vega y María Barrera, cofundadora, crearon el Grupo de apoyo para apoyar a las latinas con cáncer de mama en Filadelfia. En 2019, Morivivi se convirtió en una Non-Proffit, y desde entonces provee apoyo a latinos diagnosticados con todo tipo de cáncer. Tendremos un momento de aprendizaje, camaradería y plática sobre el cáncer con el Dr. José Torrada, además de pruebas de colesterol, niveles de azúcar en la sangre y presión sanguínea.
