Immigrant Affairs

For the past year, the City of Philadelphia Office of Immigrant Affairs (OIA) has been working hard to grow the Immigrant Workers Academy. Developed in collaboration with community groups, this outreach program connects immigrant neighborhoods to trainings on workplace protections. We wanted to create a new standard where immigrants not only understood their workplace rights, but also felt supported in exercising them. From the beginning, supporters have asked that we put our workers academy materials online. For this reason, we are happy to debut OIA’s revamped resource page. In addition to citizenship and language access materials, the page includes important information on workplace protections. They are available in many languages, and we hope this affords better access to service providers, community leaders, and immigrants themselves. https://www.phila.gov/departments/office-of-immigrant-affairs/resources

Reciclar mejor

Re-Teach!

My students need a lighting kit and a laptop to create a RE-TEACHING station! My students come from all over the world – especially from countries that speak Spanish. My students are curious, artistic, competent and courageous. Our extracurricular activities are full of enthusiastic students eager to spend time in a caring environment away from the harsh realities of a rough neighborhood. Our goal is to create a re-teaching center in our classroom. It would include a camera, lighting kit, and a computer to edit videos. So, when a group of students feels like they’ve mastered a concept, they can re-teach it in a short video and publish that video on our YouTube page.
