El pasado 21 de junio en el condado de Montgomery, la actriz de “Wonder Woman” Lynda Carter se unió a las representantes Madeleine Dean y Mary Gay Scanlon y la candidata al Congreso PA-01 Ashley Ehasz para denunciar los ataques de Donald Trump contra la libertad reproductiva, incluyendo su promesa de “liderar la acción” de prohibir el aborto en todo el país, incluyendo Pensilvania. Un hombre de Filadelfia de 36 años fue acusado el domingo de intento de asesinato en relación con un tiroteo que hirió gravemente a un oficial de policía después de una parada de tránsito, dijo la policía.
Ramón Rodríguez Vázquez también está acusado de robo, secuestro, allanamiento de morada, asalto simple, amenazas terroristas y otros delitos relacionados en conexión con un allanamiento de morada, dijo la policía.

A 36-year-old Philadelphia man was charged Sunday with attempted murder in connection with a shooting that critically wounded a police officer after a traffic stop, police said.
Ramon Rodriguez Vazquez also faces charges that include aggravated assault and home invasion, police said.
The 31-year-old officer and his partner stopped a car carrying four people shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday in the Kensington neighborhood of northeast Philadelphia, the city’s police commissioner, Kevin Bethel, told reporters late Saturday night.
The officers were taking inventory of the vehicle when they saw someone with a gun holster, Bethel said. That person fled, firing three times and hitting one officer in the neck, he said. The wounded officer was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition, Bethel said during a news conference outside the hospital.
“I often come here with a lot of anger about what my men and women must endure,» Bethel said. But he said he had just come from a gathering of 75 to 100 police personnel in which they held hands to pray for the officer, and he was coming before the public in this instance to ask people across the city to do the same.
The shooting suspect and all of the people who were in the car “as well as a person of interest who was involved in the shooting” were in custody, Bethel said.
“We believe all responsible are in custody,” he said, telling reporters that no one else was being sought.
Bethel said the officer’s partner “definitely” returned fire, but there was no initial indication that the wounded officer had fired.
Mayor Cherelle Parker said in a social media post that the officer, who has been on the force for 6 1/2 years, was “on life support” on a breathing machine. She also asked residents to pray for “a husband, a father, and a son” who was doing “a noble job under very tough circumstances.”
«He didn’t expect that he would be in a fight for his life,” she said.
Gov. Josh Shapiro said in a social media post Sunday that he and the first lady were joining others in praying for the wounded officer.
“His family is in our thoughts — as are his fellow officers, who were forced to rush one of their own to the hospital last night,” he said.
Over the past eight months, gunfire has killed one Philadelphia officer and wounded eight others.
In October, Officer Richard Mendez was killed and another officer wounded in a shooting while investigating a suspected car break-in in a parking lot at Philadelphia International Airport. Three New Jersey men are awaiting trial in that case. Earlier in the month, three officers were wounded in a shootout at a northeast Philadelphia home after an argument reportedly over a video game erupted in gunfire.
In December, an exchange of gunfire after the pursuit of a shooting suspect wounded two officers. In January, an officer was shot in a corner store and a suspect was killed by another officer. A few days later, an officer was shot in a hand while serving a warrant.
In neighboring Delaware County in February, authorities said two officers were wounded by gunfire from an East Lansdowne home before it burned to the ground. Six sets of remains were recovered, and the suspect and four relatives – two adults and two juveniles — died of gunshot wounds while one child died of smoke inhalation, authorities said.

El internacional Christian Pulisic, el ‘capitán América’, lideró a Estados Unidos en el triunfo logrado por 2-0 ante Bolivia, en el inicio del camino para ambas selecciones en la Copa América 2024.
Pulisic, del Milán italiano, abrió el marcador en el minuto 3 del encuentro, convirtiendo además el que hasta ahora es el gol más rápido del torneo, y también asistió a Folarin Balogun para que anotara el segundo en el minuto 44 del partido disputado en el AT&T Stadium de Arlington, Texas.
El equipo de las Barras y las Estrellas hizo sentir la localía desde los primeros segundos del encuentro y le bastaron tres minutos para que, asistido por Tim Weah, su capitán hiciera el primero, con un remate hacia el lado derecho que pasó rozando la mano del portero boliviano Guillermo Viscarra.

Legisladores demócratas se debaten entre asistir o no al discurso que ofrecerá el primer ministro de Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, en el Congreso de EE. UU. Hace nueve años, cerca de 60 legisladores se ausentaron de su comparencia ante el pleno.
La última vez que el primer ministro israelí Benjamin Netanyahu se dirigió al Congreso de Estados Unidos, cerca de 60 legisladores demócratas faltaron a su discurso hace nueve años, señalando que era una bofetada en la cara del entonces presidente Barack Obama debido a que se encontraba negociando un acuerdo nuclear con Irán.
Ante el discurso de Netanyahu ante los legisladores estadounidenses programado para el 24 de julio y su gobierno ahora en guerra con Hamás en la Franja de Gaza, es probable que el número de ausencias sea mucho mayor.

San Juan, Puerto Rico.– El presidente de la Cámara de Representantes, Rafael ‘Tatito’ Hernández, informó este domingo que dicho cuerpo delegará una auditoría financiera forense de todas las Alianzas Público-Privadas (APP), incluyendo la de LUMA Energy.
En un comunicado, el líder cameral adelantó que el 15 de agosto próximo la Cámara Baja realizarán una audiencia pública con el fin de investigar a fondo la situación financiera de las APP.
«Más allá del cumplimiento contractual, lo que vamos a hacer es una auditoría financiera forense que certifique que los números que brindó el contratando son los correctos, incluyendo la base de sus datos financieros», explicó Hernández en la nota.
«Que no le quepa la menor duda a estas corporaciones de que investigaremos a fondo, y si en el proceso descubrimos que están usando dinero federal no reembolsable para su operación, para luego reclamar sus déficits al Gobierno o hicieron algún movimiento ilegal, tendrán que devolver hasta el último centavo de su propio pecunio», advirtió.
Hernández indicó además que, para esta investigación, contratarán personal externo con el peritaje para realizar las auditorías que se centrarán, sin limitarse, en los asuntos financieros y operacionales en el manejo y administración de los contratos de todas las APP suscritas por el Gobierno.
«Vamos a identificar el origen y el impacto causado por todo acto delictivo o negligencia», aseguró.
De esta manera, «los puertorriqueños, los que pagamos por sus servicios, podremos identificar a los responsables que se esconden detrás de la burocracia gubernamental o corporativa para que se tomen todas acciones legales aplicables y se acabe la impunidad», añadió.
Según Hernández, desde la primera privatización, que fue la del Aeropuerto Luis Muñoz Marín, las APP, incluyendo LUMA Energy, no han hecho ninguna auditoría financiera forense.
«Esto denota una seria ineficiencia por parte del Gobierno para fiscalizar correctamente el uso de los fondos federales asignados, y pudiera implicar que estas corporaciones tengan que devolver los fondos o que estas asignaciones sean descontinuadas», sostuvo.

A declaration of a Heat Health Emergency activates the City’s emergency heat programs, which include:

The PCA Heatline (215-765-9040) will continue to operate through midnight on Sunday. The public is encouraged to call if they have questions about precautions they can take and detecting signs of heat stress. City Health Department nurses will be available to speak with callers about medical problems related to the heat.
People who do not have air conditioning are advised to seek relief from the heat by visiting friends or relatives who have air conditioning. The City will be opening a variety of alternate cooling sites that will be available for use by all Philadelphia residents looking to escape the heat.

South Philadelphia Older Adult Center (located at 1430 E.ast Passyunk Avenue) will be closed. Residents are encouraged to visit the following locations instead:

Philadelphia Water Department shutoffs are suspended during a Heat Health Emergency. Shutoffs for non-payment will resume after the Heat Health Emergency ends.

The Office of Homeless Services also declared a Code Red and will take proactive measures to protect Philadelphians who are experiencing homelessness. Call the outreach team at (215) 232-1984 if you see someone on the street who needs shelter or other homeless services. Call 911 if there is a medical emergency.
Who is at Risk?
Individuals that are at higher risk of heat stress include:
People who do not have or use air conditioning,
Older adults,
People with chronic medical conditions,
Pregnant women,
Small children,
Those who work in high heat environments,
Those who take certain medications that disrupt the regulation of body temperature,
Those who use alcohol or drugs, and
Persons engaged in strenuous physical activity.
The City strongly encourages all Philadelphians to check in with friends, neighbors, relatives, and other loved ones to make sure that they are safe from the heat.
The Department of Public Health recommends that to avoid heat-related illness, Philadelphians of all ages should:
Use air conditioners. If necessary, go to an air-conditioned location for several hours during the hottest parts of the day. If you visit a public place with air conditioning, remember to wear a mask while inside.
If using a fan, be sure to open windows to release trapped hot air.
Drink plenty of liquids, especially water, to prevent dehydration. Avoid caffeine and alcohol.
Never leave older people, children, or pets alone in cars.
Those taking regular medication should consult with their physician. Some medications cause an adverse reaction in hot weather.
Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
Avoid, as much as possible, working or playing in the hot sun or other hot areas, especially during the sun’s peak hours of 11 a.m. through 4 p.m.
Maintain a normal diet.
Shower or bathe in water that is near skin temperature.
Cover all exposed skin with an SPF sunscreen (15 or above). Wear a wide-brimmed hat to protect your face and head. Apply sunscreen under your mask to protect your face.
The early warning signs of heat stress are decreased energy, slight loss of appetite, faintness, lightheadedness, and nausea. People experiencing these symptoms should go to a cool environment, drink fluids, remove excess clothing, and rest. If there is no improvement, call a doctor or 911. City hospitals are ready and available to accept patients who need help.
Call 911 immediately if you have or you see others with serious signs of heat stress, including unconsciousness, rapid heartbeat, throbbing headache, dry skin, chest pain, mental confusion, irritability, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle cramps, staggering, and difficulty breathing. People experiencing these symptoms should get immediate medical attention. While waiting for help move the person to a cool area, remove excess clothing, spray with water, and fan the person.

He told reporters Saturday that he already has made his decision and that the person will be in attendance Thursday night in Atlanta at the first debate of the general election campaign against Democratic President Joe Biden.
Trump’s choice would likely become the immediate front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination four years from now if Trump were to win a second term, the constitutional limit. But that No. 2 will be under immense pressure from Trump and his allies to show loyalty at all times.
Pence has declined to endorse Trump this time around.
Trump has said his top consideration for a vice president is whether someone is qualified to take over as commander in chief.
But other factors at play: Who can raise money? Who performs well on television? Who will be most effective on the debate stage against Vice President Kamala Harris? Who risks overshadowing Trump, as a lame-duck if he is elected in November, with talk soon of 2028? And who has “the look»?
Trump’s campaign has repeatedly cautioned that anyone «claiming to know who or when President Trump will choose his VP is lying, unless the person is named Donald J. Trump.”
And given Trump’s penchant for unpredictability and drama, the best-laid plans could change.
A look at the top contenders heading into the convention in Milwaukee that will begin July 15.

Trump likes rich people. North Dakota’s two-term governor is most definitely rich.
Before his time as governor, Burgum led a software company that was acquired by Microsoft for more than $1 billion. He also has worked in real estate development and venture capital and spent millions on his own White House bid.
Burgum had initially run against Trump for the 2024 nomination, but the little-known governor from a sparsely-populated state gained little traction. When Burgum dropped his bid, he quickly endorsed the former president. Since then, Burgum has become one of Trump’s most visible defenders, appearing frequently on television, joining him at fundraisers, and traveling to New York for Trump’s criminal trial.
But more than that, Trump and Burgum have hit it off personally.
Burgum and his wife, Kathryn, are said to get along especially well with Trump and his team — the kind of rapport that has particular currency in Trump’s orbit. It does not hurt that Trump thinks Burgum looks the part — a “central casting” pick.
Selecting Burgum would, in some ways, echo Pence: a staid, uncontroversial governor with lesser national name recognition. Burgum, 67, would be unlikely to compete with Trump for the spotlight or to immediately overshadow him with 2028 talk.
Burgum also brings money and rich friends to the table.
But does the Republican Party want two older white guys atop the ticket?

Swept to national prominence by his bestselling memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy,” Vance has held office for less than two years. But during his short time in the Senate, the former venture capitalist from Ohio has established himself as one of the fiercest defenders of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” agenda, especially when it comes to foreign policy, trade and immigration.
Despite his early criticism of Trump, Vance has become personally close with the former president and his son Donald Trump Jr., who has talked up the senator. Vance has become a fixture of the conservative media circuit, frequently spars with reporters on Capitol Hill and has appeared with Trump at recent fundraisers and at court.
At 39, Vance, would inject some millennial energy into a race that features an 81-year-old (Biden) and a 78-year-old (Trump) at the top of the major parties’ tickets. And a debate with Harris would certainly be heated.
But will Trump be able to get over Vance’s record of past insults, which he mentions still?
In 2016, Vance was one of Trump’s fiercest critics, casting the then-reality TV star as “a total fraud» and “moral disaster” and calling him “America’s Hitler.»
Vance has said he was proved wrong by Trump’s performance in office and the senator now castigates the liberals who made his book a bestseller as they sought a window into understanding Trumpism.
If picking Vance would excite Trump’s base, choosing the Florida senator might expand the ticket’s appeal, particularly among deep-pocketed donors and more establishment-minded and moderate Republicans turned off by Trump’s rhetoric and extremism.
Rubio, once seen as a GOP hotshot, is now a well-respected voice on foreign policy and national security issues in his party. The son of Cuban immigrants, he speaks Spanish and could help Trump win over the Hispanic voters that his campaign is eagerly courting.
Rubio is also seen as a skilled debater who could hold his own against Harris.
Running alongside Trump might once have seemed unlikely possibility, given that the two were bitter rivals in 2016 for the GOP nomination and viciously attacked one another. Trump belittled Rubio as “Little Marco,” mocked him for drinking water during speeches and called him a “nervous basket case,» who was “disgusting.» Rubio said Trump was a “con man” who tried to “swindle” the Republican Party and Rubio tried to question Trump’s manhood.
“You know what they say about men with small hands,” Rubio quipped at one point during that campaign.
But then there is Rubio’s Florida «problem,” as Trump has called it.
The Constitution says two candidates from the same state cannot run as president and vice president, meaning Rubio would need to change his residency — something he is reportedly willing to do.
But does he really want the job? Rubio has been noticeably less present, publicly, than some of the others vying to be Trump’s No. 2 and did not appear with Trump at his criminal trial.

The only Black Republican in the Senate, the South Carolinian would bring racial and stylistic diversity to the GOP ticket as well as a preacher’s touch. The self-described “born-again believer” often quotes Scripture in political speeches that often reach a crescendo of call-and-response.
Scott and Trump worked closely together while Trump was in the White House on a host of policy issues, including Trump’s tax cuts, opportunity zones, and criminal justice reform legislation.
Though Scott ran against Trump for the nomination this year, the senator largely declined to criticize the former president. After failing to gain traction despite millions spent on his behalf by high-profile donors, Scott endorsed Trump over fellow South Carolinian Nikki Haley, Trump’s U.N. ambassador, and immediately began enthusiastically campaigning across New Hampshire and South Carolina on Trump’s behalf.
Trump has often joked that Scott has made a far better surrogate than he did a candidate.
But that has also raised questions about how Scott might perform on a debate stage with Harris later this year.

The only woman on his shortlist, the New York congresswoman could help Trump win over skeptical college-educated and suburban women who sided with Biden in 2020.
Stefanik was once an aide to former House Speaker Paul Ryan and served in President George W. Bush’s White House, working for two Republicans now shunned by Trump loyalists. But she transformed during Trump’s four years in office into a fully-fledged Trump acolyte.
She defended him vigorously in both of his impeachment trials and railed against his criminal indictments. In 2022, Stefanik was the first member of Republican House leadership to endorse Trump’s campaign, and did so before he had even announced.
Stefanik has spent years ingratiating herself with Trump and positioning herself as one of his most trusted allies and confidantes on Capitol Hill.
But as a member of the House, does she have enough experience?

Relationships and trust matter to Trump. Carson, who served as secretary of housing and urban development during Trump’s administration, has developed a strong bond with the former president over the years, despite a contentious start as 2016 rivals.
A soft-spoken former renowned neurosurgeon, Carson, 72, could help Trump win over minority voters as the first Black person to be named to a Republican presidential ticket. Given Carson’s age and demeanor, there is little chance of him overshadowing Trump or stealing the spotlight.
But Carson also has a history of controversial comments on abortion, guns and other issues that could cause headaches for the ticket.

The Florida congressman has become one of Trump’s most prominent conservative Black supporters and a reliable surrogate on television and at events.
His selection could help bolster Trump’s appeal with Black voters, especially the younger Black men that the campaign has been courting as it tries to eat into Biden’s 2020 coalition.
At 45, Donalds is also the kind of fresh face who would serve a marked contrast to the men at the top of both parties’ tickets.
But like Rubio, Donalds would likely need to move to join the ticket. And he, too, has a history of controversial statements, including at a recent “Congress, Cognac, and Cigars” event in Philadelphia, where he seemed to reflect favorably on the Jim Crow era as he talked about “the reinvigoration” of the Black family.
“You see, during Jim Crow, the Black family was together. During Jim Crow, more Black people were not just conservative — Black people always have been conservative-minded — but more Black people voted conservatively,” Donalds said, according to audio from the Philadelphia Inquirer.
