“There are those who struggle for one day and they are good.
There are those who struggle for one year and they are better.
There are those who struggle for many years and they are very good.
But there are those who struggle their entire lives:
these are the indispensable ones.”

Bertolt Brecht

With deep respect, affection, and gratitude, Impacto, together with its entire community—editors, reporters, citizen journalists, and collaborators—joins today in expressions of love, strength, and accompaniment for Magdaleno “Leno” Rose‑Avila, an unwavering defender of human rights and a living reference to consciousness, dignity, and struggle within our communities.

At this moment, Leno is facing serious health challenges, sustained by the love of his family, friends, and a broad community that he himself has helped shape through decades of activism, critical thought, and principled action. His presence and his voice remains firmly with us.

Even amid physical difficulty, Leno continues to give us lessons in humanity, political clarity, and radical love. From his lived experience and deep conviction, he insists that love is not passivity but daily practice; that nonviolence is a conscious choice; and that women, young people, and community organization are essential pillars of the “pyramid of hope” that continues to rise from the ground up.

Across social media and community spaces, activists, organizations, and people from different generations reaffirm what we at Impacto know well: Leno is a living source of inspiration. In these days, one of his clearest and most honest statements resonates strongly: “I don’t have room for hate.”
A present‑tense and urgent affirmation that calls us to act with dignity, even in the most difficult moments.

As a community‑rooted media outlet committed to the people’s voice, Impacto recognizes that Leno Rose‑Avila has been giving us far more than opinions. He continues to offer example, coherence, and an ethic of struggle in which justice does not exclude and humanity is never negotiable.

How to support Leno and his family

In the spirit of collective care, Impacto invites our community to support the GoFundMe campaign organized by Leno’s family, created to help cover medical expenses and to sustain a legacy of justice and solidarity that he continues to cultivate.

Every contribution is an act of love, gratitude, and commitment to a life that continues to light the way.

Today, speaking as one Impacto, we send strength, respect, and living recognition to Leno; to his wife Caro; to his children Aviva and Kimbo; and to the extended family and community that surrounds him.

Because, as Brecht reminds us, there are those who struggle their entire lives
and for us, Leno Rose‑Avila remains one of the indispensable ones.

Leno, we stand with you. Onward
