Bohemia, satire, and plenty of wit that’s how one can describe the unique musical style of Los Rivera Destino, whose popularity has soared in recent years. Carlos, Antonio, and Fernando masterfully blend humor and cleverness in their lyrics with rhythms like bolero and rock, offering audiences a creative, dynamic, and extraordinarily entertaining performance.
In a conversation with Impacto, the members of Los Rivera Destino shared their desire to win over the audience in Philadelphia. “We are a group of three Puerto Ricans who have been making music for a while. We met at the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras. We have been together for 12 years as a crew, and we make music from a perspective that uses genres not traditionally common for our generation,” said Antonio.
Their big break came in 2018, when they released their popular parody version of Bad Bunny’s hit “Te boté.” Last year, Los Rivera Destino defied expectations by presenting their own version of a symphonic concert at the Festival Hall of the Puerto Rico Center for the Performing Arts, together with the Puerto Rico Philharmonic Orchestra.
Fernando also spoke about their musical concept: “We like all kinds of music, and the truth is that when the three of us get together, we write a lot about the everyday life of Puerto Ricans and Latinos in general. But when it comes time to create the music to accompany those stories, we try to use what people least expect. Carlos added how he aims to surprise: “I try to surprise people and make sure they identify with what we’re doing. It’s not just about surprising it is about helping them feel connected to the themes we present in a coherent show, like a conversation with the audience.”
This is not the trio’s first time in Philadelphia, but it’s been five years since their last visit, which makes this performance more special: “After all this time, we have released over 30 songs that we have not yet performed in Philly. Plus, we have little surprises we include in our live shows that are not recorded anywhere. I think this is also the first time we are bringing a full-length, exclusive Los Rivera Destino show to Philadelphia. So, you really can’t miss it, because we’re bringing the entire repertoire,” said Carlos, just as excited as Fernando and Antonio.
With this performance in Philadelphia, may 30 at Taller Puertorriqueño, Los Rivera Destino hopes to bring a piece of Puerto Rico to those living here and to build a musical bridge with the diaspora creating a deep and lasting connection.
