The Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH), through its Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention (CDIP), in collaboration with Nueva Esperanza Inc. (Esperanza), has launched a new funding opportunity aimed at improving the well-being of Hunting Park residents and promoting health equity in North Philadelphia.

The initiative, titled “Health Justice for Hunting Park: Healthier Homes,” will provide a total of $50,000 for nonprofit organizations —501(c)(3) or fiscally sponsored— based in the neighborhoods of Hunting Park, Feltonville, and Juniata (ZIP codes 19122, 19124, 19133 south to Lehigh Ave., and 19140). Selected projects may have budgets ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 and will be carried out between January and December 2026.

Among the selection criteria, projects must address housing-related health challenges, such as lead exposure, indoor air quality, energy efficiency, home safety, or housing stability, and demonstrate actions that create lasting community impact. Priority will be given to initiatives led by Black and Latino residents of Hunting Park that actively participate in the Health Justice for Hunting Park Collaborative.

Interested organizations must complete the initial interest form by September 29, 2025 via JotForm. Selected proposals will be invited to follow-up interviews and, eventually, to submit full applications. Funding decisions will be announced in December of this year.

As part of the process, Esperanza and PDPH will host an information session on September 18, 2025, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Esperanza’s headquarters (4261 N 5th St., Philadelphia) and virtually via Zoom. Registration is available here.

With this initiative, both institutions seek to address the challenges and leverage the strengths of Hunting Park, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring safe, healthy, and stable housing for all residents.
