On Wednesday May 12th, thirty-four seniors from Esperanza Academy High School (EAHS) gathered on the Lighthouse baseball field to celebrate their college decisions. Referred to as Decision Day, each year EAHS seniors take a day celebrate their achievements and the promise of their next steps. This year, fifty students have already declared their decisions for this fall, and we expect several more to make decisions in the next few months.
Sahira De los Santos and Raynel López-Morel hosted the event with games, while Daiana Espíndola announced several raffle winners. Students won college essentials to help them start their next phase of life, like a shower caddy, laundry hamper, and even a mini fridge. Our counselors announced each student’s decision ultimately representing 17 schools students will attend in the fall. In total, 88 schools and the U.S. Marine Corps offered acceptances to our students’ college applications. Countless students have also been awarded scholarships, totaling $1,644,631 in one-year scholarships and $6,578,524 in four-year scholarships. Two of our students have received full academic scholarships to Temple University.
The students have worked hard for these accolades and accomplishments, along with their school counselors and teachers who have encouraged the students to work hard in their classes, apply to their dream schools, and seek out scholarships. Decision Day was a wonderful time for seniors to connect with staff and each other as their senior year has been completely virtual. While these seniors are celebrated for their entrances to university, many other students are excited to enter trade schools and the workforce upon graduation as well. Esperanza Academy is proud of each of their students as they use their gifts to impact their community and reach their potential.
