“My family is my driving force and serving the community is my passion” EM

Enerolina Meléndez’s journey from the Dominican Republic to Philadelphia in 1996 has been one of resilience and service. Born in a humble family in Mamoncito, she learned the values of hard work and determination from her parents. Despite facing economic challenges, Enerolina was driven by a desire to help her family and pursue professional growth.

Arriving in Philadelphia, she started from scratch, working odd jobs and attending English classes while embracing the support of the Herrera and Meléndez families. Through perseverance, she climbed the ranks, eventually becoming deeply involved in the Dominican Bodega Association (ABD).

In 2001, Enerolina joined the ABD and quickly became an integral part of the organization. Her dedication to supporting bodega owners led her to assume the role of president in January 2023. Under her leadership, the ABD has focused on assisting bodega owners with regulatory compliance, advocating for their safety in the face of violence and crime, and providing essential services to the community.
