We all know that voting is how the community speaks and how we perform our civic duty. So, if you plan to vote in the November 8th election, you must be registered to vote by tomorrow. October 24, 2022. After tomorrow, you will not be able to vote in the November 8th elections.
Perhaps you have heard about the election and thought you couldn’t vote or aren’t sure who you want to vote for yet. You have until November 8th to decide that, but for now, to have that right, if you register as a voter in Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania provides a very friendly website https://www.vote.pa.gov/ where you can find all the information you need to vote in the November 8th elections, and it is the quickest way to register. The website provides language assistance and information in many languages. When you enter the main site, go to the top right-hand corner of the page, click on translate and select your language. There is also a tab in the top right-hand area that says «Resources»; when you click on it, you will see «Recursos en Español.»
Who can register? The state of Pennsylvania requires that you be at least 18 years of age by November 8, 2022, a citizen of the United States for at least one month before November 8, 2022, and a resident of Pennsylvania and your election district for at least 30 days before November 8, 2022.
It may be short notice, and the clock is ticking, but you can do it! The fastest way is to register online by going to https://www.vote.pa.gov/. Click on Register to vote online and simply fill out the application.
Use your Pennsylvania ID to complete the voter registration process online. Your signature on file at PennDOT will be sent to your county voter registration office and become part of your voter record. If you do not have a Pennsylvania ID or Driver’s License, you can upload a digital image of your signature to submit with the voter registration application form. You can still register by mail to vote if you don’t have a Pennsylvania ID and cannot upload a signature.
What if you cannot register online? Mail-in registrations will be available at 2732 North 5th Street, and if you are a senior or disabled, you can call 215-469-1889 to have a voter registration form brought to your home. Or you can go in person to The Philadelphia County Board of Elections located at City Hall, 1400 JFK Blvd, Philadelphia 19107, Room 142. Their number is (215) 686-3469. Or you can go to The Voter Registration Office, 520 N. Columbus Blvd, 5th Floor, Philadelphia, Pa 19123. Their number is 215-686-1590.
Philadelphians know that we have been facing incredibly difficult issues for a long time, and lack of participation in our electoral process has allowed things to get worse. Voting is one of the ways in which we can advocate for our families and our communities.
Think about the issues, read about the candidates, and vote your conscience but first, we all must register to vote!
