During the holiday season, in an interview with one of the most promising young voices in the local music scene: Kevin Guzmán, a singer born and raised in Philadelphia, the son of a Colombian mother and a Mexican father, whose artistic proposal reflects the cultural diversity of the city where he grew up.

Kevin shared how his roots have deeply shaped his personal and artistic identity: “I grew up surrounded by many cultures—not only Hispanic, but also African and Asian. At home, Colombian and Mexican traditions coexisted: salsa and rancheras, tacos and empanadas. All of that shaped me,” the artist expressed. This multicultural environment, along with the strong presence of the Latino community in Philadelphia, has been key to his development as a musician.

Influences, training, and stages that shape a career

Kevin’s versatility is reflected in his musical influences, which range from American pop to iconic figures of Spanish-language music. “I grew up listening to Britney Spears, but also to José José, Juan Gabriel, Grupo Niche, and Juanes. I love singing in English, but for me Spanish is a deeply romantic language,” he confessed.

Although he showed talent from an early age, it was during high school that he solidified his artistic training. He studied at the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA), specializing in classical music, jazz, and music theory. His family heritage—especially the influence of his musician father, has played a key role in his development. Throughout his career, Kevin has performed on important stages such as the Kimmel Center and in countries across Latin America, as well as sharing the stage with international artists like Andrea Bocelli and Juanes.

“Delilah,” a new album, and commitment to his community

Recently, Kevin released his first music video titled “Delilah,” filmed in Philadelphia. The song, launched on Valentine’s Day, explores love from an intimate and reflective perspective. “It talks about how sometimes we don’t value the person we have until we lose them,” he explained. The track also includes an environmental message, comparing human relationships to the care—or neglect—of nature.

At the same time, the artist is working on his first solo album, titled Unchained (Hombre desencadenado), a ten-track project in English and Spanish set for release in early 2026. “This album represents freeing myself from fear and expectations. It’s telling the world: this is who I am,” he stated.

Guzmán expressed gratitude for the support of Philadelphia’s Latino community and for his recent participation in the Sal y Dulce Latin American Christmas Festival, where his talent was widely recognized. He invited the public to follow his work on social media and digital platforms as Kevin Guzmán Music, reaffirming his commitment to music, his community, and his Latin roots.
