Consent Judgment Entered Against Philadelphia Drone Flyer For Violations of FAA Regulations

United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Jacqueline C. Romero, announced today that the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania has entered a consent judgment against Michael DiCiurcio of Philadelphia, PA. In its complaint against DiCiurcio, the United States alleges that DiCiurcio operated small unmanned aircraft systems (“sUAS”) – commonly known as drones – unlawfully and unsafely in the Philadelphia area between at least December 2019 to the present, in violation of Federal Aviation Administration (“FAA”) requirements.

The United States alleges that DiCiurcio operated flights at night, in close proximity to the William Penn Statue, PSFS Building, and Liberty One Building, resulting in the sUAS almost striking a church steeple during one flight. The United States alleges that during certain flights DiCiurcio improperly operated the sUAS inside of controlled airspace near the Philadelphia airport, over people and cars, and, in at least one instance, lost control of the sUAS, causing it to fly uncontrolled over Philadelphia.

The FAA warned DiCiurcio in writing and provided him with counseling and education regarding requirements for safe operations of a sUAS under the Federal Aviation Regulations. The United States alleges that DiCiurcio nonetheless has continued to operate sUASs illegally and in a careless or reckless manner that endangers others.

Terms of the Consent Judgment

On January 23, 2025, before Magistrate Judge Jose Arteaga, DiCiurcio agreed to the terms of the consent judgment, including that: DiCiurcio (1) admits that all allegations of his conduct set forth in the Verified Complaint are true and accurate; (2) admits that the conduct as alleged in the Verified Complaint violated FAA regulations and safety guidance as alleged; and (3) accepts the administrative findings of violations and further acknowledges that the FAA will deem those matters as findings of violations that may be considered aggravating factors in any future enforcement proceedings against him.

In addition, DiCiurcio agrees that he will: (1) never operate in any manner any sUAS of any type, size, model, of any kind within the United States, nor will he ever seek any type of certification or license to operate any type or form of sUAS; (2) take down the YouTube channel known as “Philly Drone Life” and no longer operate or resurrect its content or any part in any form; (3) abandon those sUAS and other items he surrendered to the FAA on May 23, 2024, pursuant to the Court’s Order sanctioning DiCiurcio for contempt of the preliminary injunction entered by the Court on February 29, 2024.

On January 29, 2025, Chief Judge Mitchell S. Goldberg signed the consent judgment.

“We work hard to educate people about safely flying their drones, and we don’t hesitate to take strong enforcement action when pilots deliberately flout the rules,” said Deputy FAA Administrator Katie Thomson.

“Failing to adhere to the safety requirements for flying small unmanned aircraft systems endangers people and property,” said U.S. Attorney Romero. “All drone flyers have a responsibility to ensure that they observe all applicable regulations and guidance. Our Office is committed to ensuring total compliance with the FAA regulations and we will vigorously enforce violations wherever we find them.”

The allegations regarding unsafe sUAS flights in violation of FAA regulations are described in detail in the complaint. The case is captioned United States of America v. Michael DiCiurcio, Case No. 24-0612 (E.D. Pa.).

The case has been investigated by the FAA’s Flight Standards Division, and the U.S. Department of Transportation Office of the Inspector General. The case is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Viveca D. Parker.

All civil claims are allegations only. There has been no determination of civil liability.

Fund aims to boost inclusive growth through grants and support services

PHILADELPHIA. — City of Philadelphia’s Director of Commerce Alba Martinez alongside elected and City officials announced the launch of the Philadelphia Small Business Catalyst Fund during a press conference at City Hall. This new fund is a $5 million investment aimed at helping high-potential small businesses and entrepreneurs grow in the city. The Fund reflects Mayor Parker’s promise of Economic Opportunity for All as well as supporting the PHL Open for Business Executive Order, which aims to boost Philadelphia’s business environment and reduces barriers.

“Philadelphia small businesses and entrepreneurs are the backbone of our city and we want to help them begin and grow. Our goal is to make sure all Philadelphians have access to economic growth and opportunity, and we are confident that the new Small Business Catalyst Fund will support economic development and drive innovation,» said Mayor Cherelle L. Launch & Implementation
The Philadelphia Department of Commerce will launch and roll out the Philadelphia Small Business Catalyst Fund in phases beginning today. To ensure accessibility, the Department of Commerce will host community meetings, workshops, marketing and direct outreach efforts to raise awareness and engage small businesses. The Catalyst Expression of Interest form will open in April 2025 allowing businesses to signal their readiness for growth. Eligibility & Requirements
Eligible businesses for the Philadelphia Small Business Catalyst Fund need to:

Demonstrate strong growth potential with a clear expansion plan.
Contribute to local economic impact, strengthening neighborhoods and creating jobs.
Show resilience and innovation despite challenges accessing traditional funding.
Generate less than $2 million in revenue (2024).

All businesses meeting the criteria may apply. The Fund has dedicated funding for businesses in key sectors: life sciences, manufacturing, nighttime economy, creative economy and commercial corridor real estate acquisition.

Panamá niega anuncio de EE. UU. de que sus buques ya pueden transitar por Canal sin pagar

El presidente panameño José Raúl Mulino negó el anuncio del Departamento de Estado de EE. UU. sobre la exención de pago a sus buques en el paso transoceánico. La autoridad del Canal de Panamá informó que no ha hecho ningún cambio en sus directivas de cobro de peajes.

El gobierno de Panamá negó el jueves el anuncio del Departamento de Estado de Estados Unidos horas atrás acerca de que los buques del gobierno estadounidense ya pueden transitar por el Canal de Panamá sin pagar peajes.

«Simple y sencillamente intolerable. Hoy Panamá plantea a través de ustedes al mundo, mi rechazo absoluto a que sigamos explorando la vía de manejar la relación bilateral sobre la base de mentiras y falsedades», dijo el jueves el presidente panameño, José Raúl Mulino.

El mandatario, que se reunió con el secretario de Estado, Marco Rubio, durante su visita a Panamá en dias recientes, dijo que lo «sorprendió muchísimo» el comunicado estadounidense.

«Están haciendo un comunicado importante, institucional de la entidad que rige la política exterior de los Estados Unidos bajo el presidente de los Estados Unidos en función de una falsedad y eso es intolerable», enfatizó el mandatario.

El mismo miércoles, los responsables de la vía transoceánica habían negado la declaracion estadounidense.

La Autoridad del Canal, una agencia autónoma supervisada por el Gobierno panameño, indicó que no había hecho ningún cambio para cobrar peajes o derechos para cruzar el canal en un comunicado que, según afirmó, era una respuesta directa a las afirmaciones de EE. UU.

Según Washington, la exención de pagos en el Canal ahorraría a EE. UU. millones de dólares al año. «El gobierno de Panamá ha acordado no cobrar más tarifas a los buques del Gobierno de Estados Unidos por transitar por el Canal de Panamá», dijo antes el Departamento en un post en X.

Analistas afirman que la negativa de la directiva del canal y su afirmación de que no ofrece trato preferencial a ninguna nación podría elevar las tensiones bilaterales después de que el presidente estadounidense Donald Trump insistiera en recuperar el control del paso.

«Con absoluta responsabilidad, la Autoridad del Canal de Panamá, como ha indicado, está en disposición para establecer un diálogo con los funcionarios pertinentes de Estados Unidos respecto al tránsito de buques de guerra de dicho país», respondió la Autoridad del Canal.

Panamá se ha convertido en el punto de mira de la administración Trump. El presidente ha acusado al país centroamericano de cobrar tasas excesivas por utilizar su paso comercial, uno de los más transitados del mundo.

«Si no se siguen los principios, tanto morales como legales, de este magnánimo gesto de dar, entonces exigiremos que nos devuelvan el canal de Panamá, en su totalidad y sin preguntas», dijo Trump el mes pasado.

Trump también ha afirmado en repetidas ocasiones que Panamá ha cedido el control del canal a China, algo que los gobiernos panameño y chino niegan.

El secretario de Estado estadounidense, Marco Rubio, se reunió con el presidente panameño, José Raúl Mulino, a principios de esta semana como parte de un viaje por Centroamérica, en el que Mulino prometió retirar al país de la Iniciativa de la Franja y la Ruta de China.

Mulino también ha rechazado repetidamente las propuestas de Trump de que Estados Unidos retome el control del canal, que en gran parte construyó y administró durante décadas.

Sin embargo, Estados Unidos y Panamá firmaron un par de acuerdos en 1977 que allanaron el camino para que el canal volviera a estar totalmente bajo control panameño. Estados Unidos lo entregó en 1999 tras un periodo de administración conjunta.

La decisión de la administración Trump de cerrar la Agencia de Estados Unidos para el Desarrollo Internacional (USAID) ha generado amplias críticas de los demócratas en el Congreso y ha suscitado interrogantes sobre la influencia que el multimillonario Elon Musk, aliado del mandatario, ejerce sobre el gobierno federal.

Estados Unidos es la fuente más grande del mundo de asistencia extranjera, aunque varios países europeos asignan una parte mucho mayor de sus presupuestos. USAID financia proyectos en unos 120 países destinados a combatir epidemias, educar a niños, proporcionar agua limpia y apoyar otras áreas de desarrollo.

Aquí se presenta el impacto de USAID en todo el mundo:

Protegiendo la selva amazónica y combatiendo la cocaína en Sudamérica

USAID ha sido crucial en proporcionar asistencia humanitaria en Colombia, esfuerzos de conservación en la Amazonía brasileña y erradicación de la coca en Perú. Recientemente, los fondos de USAID también han apoyado la ayuda humanitaria de emergencia a más de 2,8 millones de venezolanos que huyeron de la crisis económica.

Solo en 2024, la agencia transfirió unos 45 millones de dólares al Programa Mundial de Alimentos de la ONU, principalmente para asistir a los venezolanos.

En Brasil, la iniciativa más grande de USAID es la Asociación para la Conservación de la Biodiversidad Amazónica, que se centra en la conservación y en mejorar los medios de vida de los pueblos indígenas y otras comunidades de la selva.

En Perú, parte de los 135 millones de dólares de financiación de USAID en 2024 se dedicó a financiar alternativas a la producción de cocaína, como el café y el cacao. La agencia humanitaria ha buscado frenar la producción de la droga desde principios de la década de 1980.

Respuesta a enfermedades, educación para niñas y almuerzos escolares gratuitos en África

El año pasado, Estados Unidos proporcionó a la región subsahariana más de 6.500 millones de dólares en asistencia humanitaria. Pero desde el anuncio de Trump, los pacientes con VIH en África encontraron puertas cerradas en clínicas financiadas por un aclamado programa estadounidense que ayudó a controlar la epidemia mundial del sida.

Conocido como uno de los programas de ayuda extranjera más exitosos del mundo, al Plan de Emergencia del Presidente de Estados Unidos para el Alivio del Sida (PEPFAR) se le ha acreditado el salvar más de 25 millones de vidas, en su mayoría en África.

“El mundo está perplejo”, dijo Aaron Motsoaledi, ministro de Salud de Sudáfrica, el país con más personas viviendo con VIH, después de la congelación de la ayuda estadounidense.

Motsoaledi señaló que los fondos estadounidenses cubren casi el 20% de los 2.300 millones de dólares necesarios cada año para ejecutar el programa de VIH/sida de Sudáfrica a través de PEPFAR, y ahora la mayor respuesta a una sola enfermedad en la historia está bajo amenaza.

Los efectos de detener la ayuda de Estados Unidos también han tenido efecto en toda el África subsahariana. En Ghana, el grupo de desarrollo internacional Chemonics dijo que está retirando la logística para programas en salud materna e infantil, respuesta al paludismo y VIH.

Se han detenido programas educativos en Mali, una nación de África occidental azotada por conflictos donde USAID se ha convertido en el principal socio humanitario del país después de que otros se retiraran tras un golpe de estado en 2021.

En Sudán, país devastado por la guerra civil y que además lidia con el cólera, malaria y sarampión, la congelación de la ayuda significa que 600.000 personas estarán en riesgo de contraer y propagar esas enfermedades, dijo un funcionario que habló bajo condición de anonimato porque no estaba autorizado para hablar públicamente sobre el asunto.

Hospitales en la Siria devastada por la guerra

Médicos del Mundo Turquía dice que se ha visto obligado a despedir a 300 empleados y cerrar 12 hospitales de campo que opera en el norte de Siria, una región devastada por años de guerra y un enorme terremoto en 2023. Hakan Bilgin, presidente de la organización, dijo que depende de USAID para el 60% de su financiación y ha tenido que reducir sus consultas diarias de 5.000 a 500.

“Como organización médica que proporciona servicios que salvan vidas, básicamente estás diciendo, ‘cierra todas las clínicas, detén a todos tus médicos, y no provees servicios a mujeres, niños y ancianos’”, dijo Bilgin.

Bilgin dijo que el impacto en el norte de Siria, donde millones de personas dependen de la ayuda médica externa, podría ser catastrófico.

“El impacto real es mayor de lo que podemos medir ahora mismo”, dijo en la oficina del grupo en Estambul, rodeado de cajas medio desempacadas y colegas preocupados.

Apoyo a comunidades marginadas de los Balcanes a Uganda

En Kosovo, que ha recibido más de 1.000 millones de dólares de USAID desde 1999, grupos de mujeres temen el impacto que puede tener la pérdida del financiamiento estadounidense en proyectos orientados a mujeres y diversidad en el país conservador.

“Esto podría dejar a los grupos de mujeres varados y sin apoyo”, dijo Ariana Qosaj Mustafa, de la Red de Mujeres de Kosovo.

Emina Bosnjak, del Centro Abierto de Sarajevo, dijo que USAID fomenta la concienciación contra la discriminación, la violencia y el discurso de odio, y que los grupos marginalizados sufren si eso se interrumpe.

“Los relatos más fuertes que se posicionan contra los derechos humanos y se posicionan contra la democracia y el Estado de derecho se volverán más visibles”, dijo.

Una organización sin fines de lucro que apoya a personas LGBTQ en Uganda también se siente amenazada. Pius Kennedy, funcionario de programa en la organización sin fines de lucro de Kampala Africa Queer Network, dijo que USAID les había ordenado a él y a otros cinco empleados fijos que dejaran de trabajar.

Señaló que la congelación de fondos podría borrar años de avances en la protección de minorías sexuales en Uganda, uno de los más de 30 países africanos donde la homosexualidad está criminalizada.

“Siempre veíamos a Estados Unidos como algo a lo que siempre podríamos acudir en caso de enfrentar una serie de inseguridades en el país”, dijo Kennedy, pero es posible que ese ya no sea el caso.

Apoyo a medios en Myanmar y desminado en Camboya

La congelación de la asistencia extranjera de USAID incluye 39 millones de dólares para derechos, democracia y medios en Myanmar, cuyo gobierno militar arrebató el poder al gobierno electo de Aung San Suu Kyi en 2021, dijo un grupo de derechos humanos el jueves.

El grupo Derechos Humanos Myanmar dijo que los fondos congelados “son vitales para las organizaciones que desafían el gobierno militar y promueven la democracia, que avanzan los intereses de Estados Unidos al defender los valores estadounidenses y contrarrestar la influencia autoritaria de China”.

El gobierno militar de Myanmar es el más represivo del sureste asiático. Ha perseguido a los medios independientes, encarcelado a miles de críticos no violentos y rivales políticos y emprendido una guerra brutal contra las fuerzas de resistencia prodemocracia, sin reparos por las bajas civiles.

La congelación incluye “ocho millones de dólares para siete proyectos que defienden los derechos humanos; 30 millones de dólares para nueve iniciativas que promueven la democracia; y un millón de dólares para dos programas que apoyan medios independientes”, dijo la organización.

Derechos Humanos Myanmar, cuyos miembros son trabajadores de derechos obligados a trabajar de forma clandestina, dijo que la congelación también “suspendió 22 millones de dólares para ayuda humanitaria, 36 millones de dólares para agricultura, 22 millones de dólares para salud y 30 millones de dólares para educación”.

Estados Unidos ha congelado el financiamiento a los proyectos de desminado en Camboya. En un ejemplo de la geopolítica de la ayuda extranjera, China ha intervenido para llenar el hueco. Beijing y Washington compiten por la influencia en el sudeste asiático, y China ha ganado terreno en la última década.

Heng Ratana director general del Centro Camboyano de Acción contra las Minas, dijo que China ha liberado 4,4 millones de dólares para seguir apoyando las operaciones de desminado en siete provincias camboyanas. Unos días antes, Ratana había dicho que los programas de desminado en otras ocho provincias, que estaban financiadas por Estados Unidos, debían detenerse.

Un refugio necesario en México se queda sin doctor

En Villahermosa, en el sur de México, el refugio Oasis de Paz del Espíritu Santo Amparito es uno de varios beneficiarios de la asistencia humanitaria de Estados Unidos que ayudan a aquellos que huyen de la persecución, la crisis o la violencia.

Sin embargo, con la congelación de fondos, la organización benéfica que administra el refugio tuvo que prescindir de su único médico, así como de un trabajador social y un psicólogo infantil. Desde entonces, el refugio ha apelado al gobierno mexicano por fondos alternativos para programas gestionados por las Naciones Unidas para pagar vuelos y viajes en autobús a la frontera de México con Guatemala para los migrantes que desean regresar a casa.

“La crisis solo va a empeorar, los más afectados serán la población que atendemos”, dijo el refugio en un comunicado.

Ayuda en tiempos de guerra en Ucrania

La financiación de Estados Unidos en Ucrania ha ayudado a pagar combustible para vehículos de evacuación, salarios para trabajadores de ayuda, apoyo legal y psicológico, y boletos para ayudar a los evacuados a alcanzar ubicaciones más seguras.

Esto incluye el costo de usar un salón de conciertos en el este de Ucrania como un centro temporal para civiles que huyen del implacable bombardeo ruso. Ese refugio ahora está en peligro porque el 60% de los costos, equivalentes a 7.000 dólares al mes para operar, lo pagaba Estados Unidos.

El presidente ucraniano, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, dice que su gobierno espera que se recorten entre 300 y 400 millones de dólares en ayuda. La mayoría de eso era para el sector energético que ha sido objetivo de Rusia.

Sócrates Brito resolvió un dramático encuentro con un doble remolcador en la parte alta de la undécima entrada, y los Leones del Escogido dirigidos por Albert Pujols derrotaron el miércoles 5-4 a los Cardenales de Lara, para clasificarse a la final de la Serie del Caribe 2025.

El equipo dominicano chocará el viernes en el duelo por el título contra el anfitrión México. Los Leones habían avanzado a la ronda semifinal pese a caer la víspera ante Puerto Rico.

“Fue un gran juego, estoy muy orgulloso de nuestros lanzadores que respondieron a la hora cero. Agradecido con los jugadores que se han fajado, especialmente después de una derrota como la de anoche”, dijo Pujols, astro retirado de las Grandes Ligas quien parece tener un lugar asegurado en el Salón de la Fama. “Esto es un paso más, no hemos logrado el objetivo que es llevar esa corona al República Dominicana”.

Fue hasta el séptimo capítulo que los Cardenales venezolanos descontaron gracias a un toque de sacrificio que le permitió anotar a José Rondón. Pero en la parte alta del octavo episodio Sócrates Brito remolcó una carrera con un elevado de sacrificio para devolverle a los dominicanos una ventaja de dos anotaciones, ahora por 3-1.

Venezuela empató en la baja del mismo octavo capítulo, gracias a un sencillo remolcador de Rangel Ravelo y un elevado de sacrificio de José Rondón, para enviar el encuentro a los inning extra.

En la décima entrada y con la regla de corredor automático en segunda base, Christian Adames adelantó a los Leones con un elevado de sacrificio, pero Rangel Ravelo respondió en la parte baja con un sencillo remolcador que empató de nuevo el juego para los venezolanos.

Ello dejó el escenario puesto para la definición con el imparable de Brito.

“Lo tuvimos ahí el juego hasta en tres ocasiones, desafortunadamente no se pudo batear con gente en posición anotadora. Fue un gran juego de pelota, creo que hicimos un gran trabajo pero desafortunadamente no pudimos ganar, y ellos aprovecharon bien sus oportunidades, se merecen estar en la final”, comentó el piloto venezolano Henry Blanco

México doblega a Puerto Rico, y está en la final

El estelar David Reyes cumplió con otra notable apertura para guiar a los Charros de Jalisco, campeones de la Liga Mexicana del Pacífico, a una victoria por 3-1 sobre los Indios de Mayagüez, monarcas de Puerto Rico, para anclar en la final.

“Ésa fue la diferencia del encuentro, ellos nos hicieron esas tres carreras en la primera entrada, y aunque nuestros relevistas no permitieron más daño y mantuvieron el juego cerrado, simplemente no pudimos crear oportunidades a la ofensiva”, lamentó el manager boricua Wilfredo Cordero.

Los Indios de Mayagüez reaccionaron con un sencillo productor de Isan Díaz en el séptimo episodio, pero ello fue insuficiente para poner en peligro la ventaja de los Charros.

El viernes, los Leones y los Charros chocarán para definir el campeón de la 67ma edición de la Serie del Caribe. Y este jueves, los Cardenales y los Indios se enfrentarán para definir el tercero y el cuarto lugar del torneo.

Jason Kelce stood on stage during a taping of his late-night talk show when he spotted his former boss and Eagles general manager Howie Roseman hanging out in the balcony.

Kelce turned the cameo into a Q&A and asked what every fan in Philadelphia — heck, everyone around the NFL — really wanted to know: “Did you know Zack Baun was going to be this good?”

Roseman, who built the franchise’s first Super Bowl championship team in 2017, took a flier on Baun and signed him to a modest $3.5 million, one-year deal in the offseason after four mostly forgettable years with the Saints.

The goal, Baun would be serviceable on his prove-it deal and maybe play decent enough to find a fit on the defense, perhaps even play some special teams.

The Eagles’ payoff on Roseman’s gamble? Baun blossomed into a first-team All-Pro under Vic Fangio, and now the linebacker is set to enjoy a professional homecoming in New Orleans, this time trying to help the Eagles beat Kansas City in the Super Bowl.

So, c’mon Howie, did you really know?

“I went to him after he made first-team All-Pro, and I went to him and I congratulated him, and I said, ‘Man, you deserve this,’” Roseman said. “And he said, ‘Be honest, did you think there was any shot at this?‘

“I said, ‘(heck) no,’” Roseman said to roaring laughter.

Hey, who can blame him? The 28-year-old Baun’s signing was barely a blip on the offseason transactions wire compared to more ballyhooed deals with running back Saquon Barkley — a smashing success — and linebacker Bryce Huff — a $51 million bust. The Saints took Baun in the third round of the 2020 draft and he did little to distinguish himself for a team well out of the NFL spotlight, with a combined 12 starts and 88 tackles over four seasons.

In his first season in Philly, Baun is a finalist for the AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year award.

The Saints let him walk, but the Super Bowl is far from any type of revenge game for Baun to show up in his old stadium and show his former team and fans what they missed.

He took the fall for his shortcomings in New Orleans.

“Kind of getting in my own way,” Baun said. “I had great coaches, it was a great scheme. But I kind of blame myself for getting in my own way. I think just the new environment, the new coaching staff, the new people around me kind of gave me a new opportunity and a new perspective on my career.”

Baun got out of his head and into a fresh start in Philadelphia.

In New Orleans, Baun was primarily an edge defender who failed to crack the starting lineup and played only a handful of snaps each game. The Eagles moved Baun to inside linebacker and he instantly found new life under Fangio’s scheme that forced him into being a run stopper and pass rusher on the blitz. He had 151 total tackles, including 93 solo.

Take this assessment of Baun’s career from Fangio in May.

“He really didn’t play a whole lot of defense there, but he was inside some, more outside,” he said. “We think he can play inside, and I have not seen anything so far that says otherwise.»

Consider him a fast learner.

Baun was a smash hit straight out of the gate with 15 tackles in a season-opening win against Green Bay. He even sealed the 34-29 win with a sack on the last play of the game.

He was a bit overshadowed in that one by the other new free agent in town. That Barkley guy scored three touchdowns.

Like Barkley, Baun never slowed down.

He had had 11 tackles and a sack in a win over Carolina. He forced a fumble in the third that set up a score, one of five turnovers for the Eagles, and had two tackles for losses in December against Washington. In Philadelphia’s playoff win over Green Bay, Baun was the first Eagles linebacker with an interception in a playoff game since DeMeco Ryans in 2014.

Baun went from a bargain-bin afterthought to a free-agent All-Pro linebacker in hot demand this offseason, sure to parlay his career year into long-term financial security.

Roseman has built a career on salary cap creativity and might need to summon all his experiences to find a way to keep Baun an Eagle. Back at his appearance at Kelce’s show, Roseman ended his story with Baun on a pointed note that the Eagles took a chance on him: “Please remember that when we do your contract.”

Baun could potentially end two tenures in New Orleans. But that’s a worry for another day for him — one he hopes comes with a Super Bowl ring.

Un representante demócrata anunció este miércoles que planea activar el proceso de juicio político (‘impeachment’) contra el presiente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, por sus comentarios sobre Gaza tras la visita a Washington del primer ministro israelí, Benjamín Netanyahu.

«Estoy aquí para anunciar que presentaré artículos de juicio político contra el presidente por los actos desesperados que ha propuesto y los actos desesperados que ha llevado a cabo», dijo el representante de Texas Al Green durante su discurso ante la Cámara de Representantes.

Trump propuso el martes tras reunirse con Netanyahu que Estados Unidos tome el control de Gaza y lidere su reconstrucción y que los palestinos sean reubicados en otros países.

Al Green condenó esas declaraciones: «La limpieza étnica en Gaza no es una broma, especialmente cuando emana del presidente de Estados Unidos, la persona más poderosa del mundo», sostuvo.

Tras el anuncio del legislador, el equipo de campaña de Trump lanzó una iniciativa de recogida de firmas para defender al mandatario de «los lunáticos radicales».

«Los demócratas acaban de pedir que me enjuicien otra vez! Perdieron contra mí en una gran victoria aplastante y ahora su única opción para detener a MAGA (siglas el proyecto de Trump para «hacer América grande de nuevo) es lanzar un tercer juicio político», apuntó el mandatario en ese mensaje.

El presidente estadounidense fue sometido en dos ocasiones a un proceso de ‘impeachment’ durante su primer mandato (2017-2021).

En diciembre de 2019 se convirtió en el tercer mandatario de EE.UU., por decisión de la Cámara de Representantes, en enfrentarse a un juicio político por abuso de poder y obstrucción al Congreso.

En enero 2021, a una semana de expirar su primera mandato, recibió el segundo por incitación a la insurrección de sus partidarios, quienes acabaron irrumpiendo en el Capitolio para intentar bloquear la ratificación de la victoria electoral del demócrata Joe Biden (2021-2025).

En ambos casos quedó absuelto por el Senado estadounidense. El paso previsto por Green sería solo el inicio de un proceso abocado al fracaso. Las acusaciones, que se conocen como «artículos de ‘impeachment'», deben ser sometidas a voto en la Cámara Baja, donde los republicanos tienen el control.

De ser aprobados esos artículos en ese hemiciclo, la celebración del juicio político para analizar si se destituye al presidente recaería en el Senado, que también está controlado por los conservadores.

ANTRIM TOWNSHIP, Pa.— The heist of 100,000 eggs from the back of a trailer in Pennsylvania has become a whodunit that police have yet to crack.

Four days after the theft that law enforcement say could be tied to the sky-high cost of eggs, no leads have come in, Trooper First Class Megan Frazer, a spokesperson for the Pennsylvania State Police, said Wednesday.

“We’re relying on leads from people from the community. So we’re hoping that somebody knows something, and they’ll call us and give us some tips,” she said.

Police are also following up with any possible witnesses and looking into surveillance footage that could help them identify the perpetrator as they race to solve the mystery.

“In my career, I’ve never heard of a hundred thousand eggs being stolen. This is definitely unique,» said Frazer, who has a dozen years on the job.

Bird flu is forcing farmers to slaughter millions of chickens a month, pushing U.S. egg prices to more than double their cost in the summer of 2023. And it appears there may be no relief in sight with Easter approaching.

The average price per dozen eggs nationwide hit $4.15 in December. That is not quite as high as the $4.82 record set two years ago, but the Agriculture Department predicts egg prices are going to soar another 20% this year.

The 100,000 eggs were snatched from the back of Pete & Gerry’s Organics’ distribution trailer on Saturday about 8:40 p.m. in Antrim Township, Pennsylvania, according to police.

They are worth about $40,000, which means this crime is a felony, Frazer said.

Pete & Gerry’s Organics LLC said in a statement that the company is working with law enforcement to investigate the theft.

“We take this matter seriously and are committed to resolving it as quickly as possible,” the statement said.

On February 3, 2025, the streets of Philadelphia witnessed an unexpected march that brought together approximately 450 people. Alma Romero dusted off an old banner she had used in a 2006 march, which reads, “This is the only home I and my children know.” Some participants gathered on 9th Street, near the area known as the Italian Market.

The march began with uncertainty and a noticeable police presence, which initially sparked fear among the participants. However, the officers soon clarified that they were there to ensure their safety, and the atmosphere shifted to one of unity and solidarity, standing against the anti-immigrant rhetoric promoted by President Trump.

The main demand of the protesters was respect and an end to the hostile rhetoric toward immigrants, particularly in light of recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in the city. “My daughter cried and asked me, ‘Mom, what should I do? They tell us not to go out, but you’re always outside,’” Alma shared.

Olga Rentería, a journalist with the digital outlet Philatinos Radio, noted that what stood out to her in this march, compared to others she had attended, was the significant presence of young people. She emphasized, “They are the future, and they’re not afraid to speak their minds.”

One of the most emotional moments, according to Olga, occurred when a young man took the megaphone to thank his parents and grandparents for immigrating. “He made many of us cry. There he was, a young man raised here, telling us that our struggle was worth it,” she said.

Olga pointed out that many members of the community who usually attend such events did not join this time, which she attributed to a lack of prior information. “If they had known, many would have closed their shops to join us,” she commented. However, she noted that as the march progressed, people began coming out of their homes to join the demonstration, something she hadn’t seen in previous marches. Olga mentioned that they reached City Hall around 9 p.m. before heading home.

This march will be followed by an initiative from the Pennsylvania Immigration Coalition, which is calling on immigrants to refrain from working on Sunday, February 9, the day of the Super Bowl, when the Philadelphia Eagles will compete for the championship. The initiative also encourages people to avoid spending money at corporate businesses the following day.

These actions are a response to the increase in attacks against the immigrant community by ICE and the policies of the new presidential administration. Business leaders are urging local city officials to take decisive measures to strengthen protections and expand opportunities for immigrants, especially in the current climate of hostility toward them.

Additionally, they are calling on Mayor Cherelle Parker to reaffirm Philadelphia’s commitment as a sanctuary city and for the City Council to increase funding for programs aimed at the immigrant community. These programs include the Philadelphia Immigrant Family Unity Project (PAIFUP) and additional resources for the Philadelphia School District. The funds would improve staff training on the District’s sanctuary policies and implement best practices for language access and trauma-informed teaching for immigrant students or children of immigrants.

These demands emerged after immigrant advocacy groups met with some elected Democratic officials at City Hall on January 31. Mayor Parker was not present at the meeting, and State Representative Danilo Burgos was the only Latino official in attendance.
