A 25 años de masacre indígena en México víctimas siguen esperando justicia

Chenalhó, México.– A 25 años de la matanza de Acteal en México, donde un grupo de paramilitares asesinó a tiros y machetazos a 45 indígenas tzotziles que eran críticos con el Gobierno en Chiapas, sobrevivientes y familiares de las víctimas siguen clamando por una justicia que no llega.

“Estos 25 años aquí no acaban. Nuestra exigencia de justicia sigue, seguimos exigiendo a la Comisión Interamericana (de Derecho Humanos) que dicte ya el informe de fondo”, dijo a EFE Guadalupe Vasquez Luna, tzotzil sobreviviente de la masacre y quien ve aún el panorama poco alentador.

Para Guadalupe y las demás víctimas, el recuerdo de aquel momento fatídico en que perdieron la vida 18 mujeres, cuatro de ellas embarazadas, 16 niñas, cuatro niños y 17 hombres, y que dejó 26 heridos graves, está más vivo que nunca.

“Cada día que pasa la recordamos (la matanza), convivimos con esos recuerdos y ha sido muy difícil. Cada que nos niegan esa oportunidad de justicia es como si nos volvieran a golpear los mismos del (año) 97”, reprochó Vasquez Luna.

Sobrevivientes y familiares de las víctimas han esperado, desde el 2005, la respuesta de la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos (CIDH) para que emita la publicación sobre el caso y se pueda responsabilizar al Estado mexicano por las violaciones graves a los derechos humanos que se cometieron.

Esperan que se señale a todos los autores intelectuales y materiales de los hechos y mande las acciones que garanticen la no repetición de los hechos.

Antonio Gutiérrez, coordinador de las abejas de Acteal y sobreviviente de la masacre, señaló a EFE que van a seguir luchando por conseguir justicia,

“Para nosotros eso no se puede ocultar, todo lo que hicieron en 1997, el 22 de diciembre (…) tenemos que decir claro, transparente, ‘hechos no palabras’, por eso para estos 25 años sigue siendo impunidad, pero no vamos a cerrar la boca vamos a seguir denunciándolos”, dijo.

Gutiérrez es fundador de las Abejas, un movimiento que nació hace 30 años tras la detención de cinco defensores del territorio, a quienes en 1993 les violaron sus derechos humanos pues buscaban impedir la perforación de la tierra en busca de petróleo.

El 22 de diciembre de 1997 un grupo de indígenas de esta organización oraba en la comunidad de Acteal, en el municipio de Chenalhó, en Chiapas, cuando fue atacado por un centenar de presuntos paramilitares, también indígenas.

“Vivir en carne propia los 30 años de violencia, corrupción, marginación, exclusión y otras cosas, de verdad vivir en carne propia está horrible, totalmente, por esa razón nosotros queremos aclararlo”, afirmó Gutiérrez.

A 25 años de la tragedia, el grupo de las Abejas de Acteal se encuentra dividido, pues hay quienes decidieron aceptar las disculpas públicas y los apoyos económicos emitidos por el subsecretario de Derechos Humanos, Población y Migración de México, Alejandro Encinas, el 3 de septiembre del 2020.

Pero otro grupo interpuso en agosto de este año una solicitud a la CIDH para que dictara el Informe de Fondo para el caso, pues la agrupación considera que en el pasado se protegió a altos funcionarios.

Al mismo tiempo indicaron que el Estado no efectuó una investigación verdadera y que grupos paramilitares, acusados de perpetrar la masacre, siguen operando en la impunidad bajo la protección de las autoridades y los pobladores de Acteal siguen viviendo violencia en Chenalhó, Pantelhó y municipios vecinos.

Injured Eagles QB Hurts expected to be sidelined at Dallas

Philadelphia. — Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is not expected to play Saturday because of a sprained right shoulder, putting Gardner Minshew in line to start against the Dallas Cowboys.

Hurts was injured on a hard tackle during Sunday’s win at Chicago. The Eagles have the best record in the NFL at 13-1 and would clinch the NFC East title and the No. 1 seed in the conference with a win against the Cowboys.

“It’s looking like it’s going to be Gardner,” Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said Thursday.

The 24-year-old Hurts said he grasped he was injured the moment he was tackled by defensive tackle Travis Gipson. He stayed in the game and went 7-of-10 passing for 110 yards — and hit wide receiver A.J. Brown for a 68-yard reception.

“He’s disappointed because he wants to play. He’s the toughest guy I know,” Sirianni said. “We have to do what’s best as an organization to put him in a safe spot.”

Hurts has passed for 22 touchdowns and 3,472 yards, and he also has rushed for 747 yards and 13 touchdowns. His 35 total touchdowns this season is tied for the franchise record set by Randall Cunningham in 1990.

“Jalen did everything he possibly could to get his body ready to go,” Sirianni said. “At the end of the day, he’s not going to be able to do it. He tried like crazy. I know he still wants to go. That’s just the toughness. Jalen Hurts is the toughest player I’ve ever been around.”

Hurts suffered an ankle injury and missed a game last season against the New York Jets. Minshew, a former starter with Jacksonville, was 20 of 25 for 242 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-18 victory on the road.

“Gardner is going to be our guy, Gardner will be ready,” Sirianni said. “He’s ready to go.”

Nombran a un juez latino para dirigir el máximo órgano judicial de Nueva York

La gobernadora de Nueva York, Kathy Hochul, ha designado este jueves al juez de origen puertorriqueño Héctor D. Lasalle para presidir el máximo órgano judicial del estado, la Corte de Apelaciones, cargo que debe ser confirmado aún por el Senado.

Lasalle es el juez jefe de la corte estatal de Apelaciones de Brooklyn y era uno de siete candidatos que una comisión de nombramientos de la judicatura había recomendado a Hochul para llenar la vacante surgida tras la renuncia de la jueza Janet DiFiore, efectiva el pasado agosto.

De ser confirmado, sería el primer latino al frente del sistema de cortes del estado, con más de 1.350 jueces estatales, unos 1.850 jueces de pueblos y aldeas y más de 14.000 empleados no judiciales y que cuenta con un presupuesto de 3 mil millones de dólares.

«La Corte de Apelaciones de Nueva York tiene una larga historia como modelo de justicia, y el juez Lasalle es un destacado jurista en esa tradición», indicó Hochul en un comunicado.

«Tiene las habilidades, la experiencia y el intelecto para garantizar que nuestro tribunal supremo sea visto como un líder en todo el país. Tiene una excelente reputación como generador de consenso», afirmó la gobernadora.

Lasalle indicó, por su parte, sentirse «honrado» por el «tremendo honor» de su nominación.

«Estoy comprometido a liderar la Corte con integridad y equidad, defender la justicia y proteger los derechos de los neoyorquinos», afirmó, citado en el comunicado.

Desde el 2021, LaSalle ha dirigido la corte estatal de apelaciones más con más casos y más grande de la nación, con 21 jueces asociados, más de 400 empleados no judiciales y un presupuesto de aproximadamente 69 millones de dólares.

El papa advierte a la curia romana sobre «demonios educados»

Ciudad de Vaticano. — El papa Francisco advirtió el jueves a los burócratas del Vaticano que tengan cuidado con el mal que acecha entre ellos, que describió como “demonios educados” que asedian a la gente que vive la fe católica de forma rígida y presuntuosa.

Francisco aprovechó su mensaje anual de Navidad a la curia romana para volver a advertir a los cardenales, obispos y sacerdotes que trabajan en la Santa Sede que en ningún caso están más allá de todo reproche, y que de hecho son vulnerables a la maldad.

Francisco les dijo que al vivir en el corazón de la Iglesia católica, “podríamos caer en la tentación de pensar que estamos seguros, que somos mejores, que ya no nos tenemos que convertir».

Sin embargo, los residentes en el Vaticano corren más peligro porque están cercados por “demonios educados”, que “entran con educación, sin que uno se dé cuenta», dijo el papa a los religiosos en el Salón de las Bendiciones del Palacio Apostólico.

Hace años que Francisco utiliza su mensaje de Navidad para dar una reprimenda anual a los burócratas del Vaticano, a los que guía en un “examen de conciencia” típicamente jesuita para ayudarles en el arrepentimiento antes de Navidad.

Sus críticas más duras llegaron en 2014, cuando enumeró los “15 males de la curia” que sufrían algunos, como el “terrorismo del chisme”, el “Alzheimer espiritual” y vivir “hipócritas” dobles vidas. Al año siguiente, Francisco ofreció un antídoto para esos pecados con un “catálogo de virtudes” que confiaba en que siguieran en su lugar, como la honestidad, la humildad y la sobriedad.

Este año tuvo un tono similar, y Francisco retomó sus críticas a formas de abuso que los religiosos utilizan incluso entre ellos.

“No existe sólo la violencia de las armas, existe la violencia verbal, la violencia psicológica, la violencia del abuso de poder, la violencia escondida de las habladurías”, dijo el pontífice en una posible referencia a un nuevo caso de abuso de autoridad que ha remecido su orden jesuita. ”No aprovechen su posición y papel para mortificar al otro».

El papa también pareció dirigirse de forma más general a tradicionalistas y ultraconservadores, que se han convertido en sus mayores críticos. Francisco criticó su forma de vivir la fe e insistió en que ser católico no significa seguir una serie de normas inamovibles, sino un “itinerario de comprensión del mensaje de Cristo (que) no tiene fin y continuamente nos desafía”.

“La herejía verdadera no consiste sólo en predicar otro Evangelio (….) como nos recuerda Pablo, sino también en dejar de traducirlo a los lenguajes y modos actuales”, añadió.

Los católicos tradicionalistas han criticado el énfasis de Francisco en la misericordia y la apertura a la flexibilidad de doctrina en asuntos como permitir el acceso a los sacramentos a católicos divorciados y casados en segundas nupcias en bodas civiles. Algunos incluso han llegado a acusarle de herejía por algunos de sus gestos y prédicas, como permitir que haya estatuas “paganas” en el Vaticano.

Francisco dedicó la mayor parte de su discurso a la necesidad de permanecer vigilantes a la labor del diablo, un tema que comentó hace poco durante sus lecciones de catequismo con público general.

Dijo a los burócratas del Vaticano que no basta con condenar el mal o desterrarlo, porque siempre vuelve con diferentes disfraces, más fuerte que antes. Francisco utilizó varias veces el término plural “nosotros”, sugiriendo que se incluía entre los miembros del Vaticano que debían permanecer atentos a la presencial del demonio.

“Antes parecía tosco y violento, ahora se ve elegante y refinado”, advirtió. Pidió que los religiosos estuvieran atentos para desenmascararlo de nuevo y señaló que “estos ‘demonios educados’ (…) entran con educación, sin que uno se dé cuenta”.

Francisco relató la historia de un convento del siglo XVII donde la superiora, la madre Angelica, se reformó de forma carismática a sí misma y a su monasterio tras la entrada del mal, pero el demonio regresó en forma de una fe rígida.

“Habían expulsado al demonio, pero había regresado siete veces más fuerte, y bajo el disfraz de la austeridad y el rigor introdujo la rigidez y la presunción de eran mejores que otros”, advirtió Francisco.

Algunos de los principales críticos de Francisco estaban en ese mismo público, junto con algunos de sus aliados. El cardenal Angelo Becciu, al que Francisco destituyó en 2020 y despojó de sus derechos como cardenal tras acusarle de infracciones financieras, regresaba a la ceremonia navideña anual.

Becciu está siendo juzgado con otras nueve personas en la corte penal vaticana, y niega las acusaciones. Francisco le permitió hace poco seguir participando en actos del Vaticano, un indicio de que el papa quizá piensa que se adelantó al sancionar a Becciu antes de que una corte fallara sobre su culpabilidad o inocencia.

Zelenski plantea a Biden un plan de paz que no dañe la soberanía de Ucrania

Washington, EE. UU.- El presidente de Ucrania, Volodímir Zelenski, propuso este miércoles a su homólogo de Estados Unidos, Joe Biden, «pasos concretos» para lograr la paz en la guerra con Rusia sin poner en cuestión la soberanía del territorio ucraniano.

«Como presidente, la paz no debe comprometer la soberanía, la libertad ni la integridad territorial de mi país», dijo Zelenski en una rueda de prensa conjunta con Biden.

El mandatario ucraniano explicó que había abordado con el líder estadounidense la imposición de sanciones contra «el Estado terrorista de Rusia» para que «rinda cuentas» por la invasión, pero también consideró «muy importante encontrar una fórmula para la paz».

«Hemos planteado pasos muy específicos para que Estados Unidos nos pueda ayudar a implementarla. Propusimos una fórmula para una cumbre de paz», aseguró.

No obstante, Zelenski reiteró que una negociación con Rusia no puede comprometer la integridad territorial de Ucrania e insinuó que el Kremlin debe reparar el daño hecho con su invasión.

«No puede haber solo paz tras esta guerra que nos fue impuesta», afirmó Zelenski tras recordar que muchos padres han perdido a sus hijos en el frente.

Por su parte, Biden consideró que la única forma de que haya una negociación de paz es que los ucranianos venzan a los rusos, por lo que prometió que Estados Unidos seguirá armando al Ejército de Kiev.

El inquilino de la Casa Blanca encomió que Zelenski esté «abierto a buscar la paz» a diferencia del presidente de Rusia, Vladímir Putin, quien «no tiene ninguna intención» en hacerlo.

Opinó que una eventual retirada de los rusos «no va a ocurrir por ahora», de manera que Estados Unidos y sus aliados «continuarán ayudando a Ucrania a vencer en el campo de batalla».

«Cuando el presidente Zelenski esté dispuesto a hablar con los rusos, también tendrá éxito porque entonces habrá ganado en el campo de batalla», sentenció Biden.

Los dos líderes comparecieron ante la prensa en la Casa Blanca tras mantener una reunión bilateral, que se engloba en el primer viaje al extranjero de Zelenski desde el comienzo de la invasión rusa el pasado 24 de febrero.

Con motivo de esta visita, Biden ha ordenado el primer envío a Ucrania del sistema de defensa antiaérea Patriot, que Zelenski había pedido para enfrentar los bombardeos rusos.

20-year church abuse probe ends with monsignor’s quiet plea

Twenty years after city prosecutors convened a grand jury to investigate the handling of priest-abuse complaints within the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia, the tortuous legal case came to an end with a cleric’s misdemeanor no contest plea in a near-empty City Hall courtroom.

Monsignor William Lynn, 71, had served nearly three years in state prison as appeals courts reviewed the fiery three-month trial that led to his felony child endangerment conviction in 2012. The verdict was twice overturned, leaving prosecutors pursuing the thinning case in recent years with a single alleged victim whose appearance in court was i n doubt.

In the end, they said Lynn could end the two-decade ordeal by pleading no contest to a charge of failing to turn over records to the 2002 grand jury. A judge took the plea during a short break from her civil caseload last month, and imposed no further punishment.

“He lost 10 years of his life, 10 years of his priestly life,” said defense lawyer Thomas Bergstrom, speaking of the decade since Lynn’s conviction. “It’s a travesty. It’s an absolute travesty.”

“You’re fighting an uphill battle because the public at large misunderstood what he was convicted of. They thought he was an abuser,” Bergstrom said.

Lynn was the first U.S. church official ever charged, convicted or imprisoned over their handling of priest-abuse complaints.

His trial attracted a packed courtroom full of press, priest-abuse victims and outraged Catholics, along with a few church loyalists. Lynn, the longtime secretary for clergy, was accused of sending a known predator — named on a list of problem priests he had prepared for Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua — to an accuser’s northeast Philadelphia parish.

The trial judge allowed nearly two dozen other priest-abuse victims to testify about abuse they had suffered in the archdiocese over a half century. An appeals court later said their weeks of testimony over uncharged acts were unfair to Lynn — who some saw as a scapegoat for the church, given that the bishops and cardinals above him were never charged.

“This is one defendant, one count of endangering the welfare of children, with one group of children,” Judge Gwendolyn Bright said before his retrial was set to start in March 2020. “We’re not bringing in the so-called or alleged ‘sins of the Catholic Church.’”

The pandemic closed the courthouse, and the case against Lynn stalled yet again until the recent plea offer.

A spokesperson for District Attorney Larry Krasner, who inherited the case from his predecessors, called Lynn’s unannounced Nov. 2 plea “the appropriate path for bringing finality and closure to the victims, who have endured retraumatization throughout the legal process for years» and said they did not want to face another trial.

The archdiocese did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

Lynn, who remains a priest, has been saying Mass for retired nuns and hopes to assume more duties, according to Bergstrom, who declined to make his client available to the press on Wednesday.

At his trial, Lynn said he had made a list of 35 suspected predator priests so Bevilacqua would address the matter, only to have the list be destroyed.

“I did not intend any harm to come to (the victim). The fact is, my best was not good enough to stop that harm,” Lynn testified.

In recent years, prosecutors were not sure they could get the trial accuser — a policeman’s son who testified to his long struggle with addiction — back in court for the retrial, complicating their trial strategy. Assistant District Attorney Patrick Blessington, the lead trial prosecutor in 2012, had said he could try the case without a victim by arguing that Lynn had placed “a bomb” in the parish, whether or not it went off.

Blessington is now retired. And, ultimately, District Attornery Krasner decided not to try that strategy.

“The victims in this matter expressed to the commonwealth that proceeding (with another trial) … would cause irreparable harm and further victimize them,» his office said in its statement.

The trial accuser said that he had been abused by two priests and his Catholic school teacher. One of them, defrocked priest Edward Avery, took a plea offer days before trial. The Rev. Charles Engelhardt, who said he had never met the accuser, was convicted at a 2013 trial and died in prison. Teacher Bernard Shero was released in 2017 after his conviction was overturned and, like Lynn, pleaded no contest to lesser charges.

The priest-abuse scandal has cost the Roman Catholic church an estimated $3 billion or more, and plunged dioceses around the world into bankruptcy.

13-1 Eagles lead the way with 8 players in

The NFL-leading Philadelphia Eagles had a league-best eight players, including quarterback Jalen Hurts, selected for the first Pro Bowl Games.

The league announced rosters for the NFC and AFC on Wednesday. Players from both conferences will compete in weeklong skills competitions culminated with a flag football game on Sunday, February 5, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The NFL eliminated its full-contact all-star game in September.

Kansas City and Dallas each had seven players chosen for the Games. San Francisco and Baltimore are next with six. Only two teams — Jacksonville and Chicago — aren’t represented on the initial rosters.

Joining Hurts from the Eagles (13-1) are wide receiver A.J. Brown, running back Miles Sanders, right tackle Lane Johnson, center Jason Kelce, left guard Landon Dickerson, linebacker Haason Reddick and cornerback Darius Slay. Hurts, Sanders, Dickerson and Reddick are first-timers. It’s Kelce’s sixth, Slay’s fifth and Johnson’s fourth. Sanders and Reddick were selected as backups.

Patrick Mahomes is the AFC’s starting quarterback. Josh Allen and Joe Burrow are his backups. Kirk Cousins and Geno Smith are backing up Hurts.

Smith is a first-time pick in his 10th season in the NFL. He’s the first quarterback since Rich Gannon (1999) to earn his first Pro Bowl selection in Year 10 or later of his career.

Trent Williams, the 49ers’ left tackle, was chosen for the 10th time. Aaron Donald became the first defensive lineman to make the Pro Bowl in each of his first nine seasons. He’s the only representative from the defending Super Bowl champion Los Angels Rams (4-10).

Miami’s Tyreek Hill was selected to his seventh consecutive Pro Bowl, joining A.J. Green as the only wide receivers to earn Pro Bowl honors in each of their first seven seasons.

Twenty-five of the 88 players selected are first-timers, including rookie cornerbacks Sauce Gardner of the New York Jets and Tariq Woolen of the Seattle Seahawks. It’s the second time two rookie cornerbacks made the initial Pro Bowl roster. The first occurred in 1982 when Pro Football Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott and Everson Walls made it.

Saquon Barkley is the NFC’s starting running back. Sanders and Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard are the backups. Nick Chubb is the AFC’s starting running back. Derrick Henry and Josh Jacobs back him up.

The NFC’s starting wideouts are Brown and Justin Jefferson. CeeDee Lamb and Terry McLaurin also made the squad. The AFC’s starting receivers are Hill and Stefon Diggs.

Davante Adams and Ja’Marr Chase also made the roster.

George Kittle starts at tight end for the NFC and T.J. Hockenson made the team after a midseason trade from Detroit to Minnesota.

AFC starting tight end Travis Kelce made the team for the eighth time. Mark Andrews backs him up.

The roster selections were determined by the consensus votes of fans, players and coaches.

Each group’s vote counted one-third toward determining the teams. The NFL is the only sports league that combines voting by fans, coaches and players to determine its all-stars. It was also the first professional sports league to offer online all-star voting in 1995.

Peyton Manning will coach the AFC team while Eli Manning guides the NFC. Ray Lewis serves as the defensive coordinator for the AFC. DeMarcus Ware handles the role for the NFC.

International Flag football stars Vanita Krouch and Diana Flores were named as offensive coordinators.

The AFC and NFC will start off with five skills competitions on Feb. 2. On Sunday, there will be three flag football games and three additional skills competitions between the two conferences.

The winner of each skills competition earns three points for his conference. There are eight total skills competitions worth a total of 24 available points.

The winner of each of the first two flag games earns six points for his conference. The first two flag games are worth a total of 12 available points.

Points from the eight skills competitions and first two flag games are added together and that will be the score at the beginning of the third and final flag game. The third flag game will determine the overall winner of the Pro Bowl Games.

The flag games will feature a traditional AFC vs. NFC matchup with 27 skill position players available from the full roster for each conference.

Each team will also have one center available on their roster. The game will be played 7 on 7.

Each game will be 20 minutes in length, with two, 10-minute halves on a 50-yard field with two 10-yard end zones.

Touchdowns are worth six points. There are two different options for post-touchdown conversions: 1-point conversion from the 3-yard line and 2-point conversion from the 10-yard line. Safeties and returned 1- or 2-point conversion attempts are worth 2 points.

Mum’s the word!

Start the year off with one of Philly’s most famous traditions, when more than 10,000 costumed marchers strut their stuff down Broad Street from City Hall to Washington Avenue in South Philly. The closest comparison to the festive, often-rowdy, more than 120-year-old tradition is Mardi Gras in New Orleans. The parade is free to watch, but the best seats in the house — bleacher seating near City Hall — are $25 each. Tickets can be purchased online or at the Philadelphia Visitors Center. Christmas Village in LOVE Park

The open-air European wonderland that is Christmas Village in LOVE Park returns for 2022 with more than 110 different vendors set up in brand-new wooden huts. Matisse in the 1930s at the Museum of Art

By 1930, Henri Matisse — one of the giants of 20th-century art — had achieved significant international renown, yet he found himself in a deep creative slump. The turning point came in the fall of that year with a commission to decorate the main gallery of the Barnes Foundation, then located in Merion, PA. The resulting monumental mural, The Dance (1930–33), turned Matisse’s artistic practice around. Opening first in Philadelphia, the only U.S. venue, Matisse in the 1930s contains 143 renowned and rarely seen paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints and illustrated books. Matisse in the 1930s is on view now through January 29, 2023.

Electrical Light Show in Franklin Square

Franklin Square celebrates the winter season with nightly spectacle of light shows inspired by Benjamin Franklin’s legendary kite and key experiment. Zúrich, Suiza. — Ganar el Mundial de fútbol no bastó para poner a Argentina en el primer puesto de la clasificación mundial de la FIFA, que mantuvo a Brasil en primer lugar el jueves.

Brasil quedó eliminada en cuartos de final ante Croacia, pero tenía puntos suficientes gracias a los resultados de los últimos años, que la FIFA valora en sus cálculos.

Argentina ganó un puesto para quedar segunda, mientras que Francia, derrotada en la final, subió otro para llegar al tercero.

La diferencia entre los gigantes sudamericanos fue de apenas dos puntos.

Según la FIFA, si la Albiceleste hubiera alcanzado la cima del ranking FIFA de haber derrotado a Francia en los 90 minutos o en la prórroga. Como el partido se definió en una tanda de penales, Argentina no contabilizó la cantidad de puntos necesaria para quedar como nuevo líder.

Bélgica se mantenía cuarta, tras perder dos puestos, pese a haber ganado apenas un encuentro en Qatar y no haber pasado de la fase de grupos.

Inglaterra y Holanda, ambas derrotadas en cuartos de final, seguían quinta y sexta, respectivamente.

Croacia ganó cinco puestos y quedó séptima.

La campeona europea, Italia, estaba octava a pesar de que no se clasificó para el Mundial.

Marruecos quedó como el país africano mejor clasificado, en 11mo lugar, tras su histórica marcha a las semifinales en Qatar.

En el número 13, Estados Unidos era el combinado mejor clasificado de la CONCACAF y ganaba tres puestos después de llegar a octavos. México era 15to.

Uruguay (16ta) y Colombia (17) eran las otras selecciones de Sudamérica entre las 20 primeras.

Japón lideraba a los equipos de la confederación asiática en el 20mo puesto, cuatro más arriba, mientras que Australia subió 11 puestos, al 27mo. Los dos equipos llegaron a octavos de final.

Camerún, que derrotó a Brasil en la fase de grupos, ganó 10 puestos para quedar 33ro.

Por su parte, Qatar cayó 10 puestos, hasta el 60, tras perder sus tres encuentros como anfitriona del máximo torneo del fútbol internacional.
