This coming election is being framed by Donald Trump as a battle between Good and Evil—like that, with capital letters. The twice-impeached loser of the 2020 election is attempting to create his own reality, separate from the United Sates Constitution, one that is not constrained even by logic, common ethical or legal assumptions or traditions.

Trump has no platform to compete with Biden’s plans. He only wants people to vote for him because he is the man who is fighting the evil forces that stole the last presidential election—he is their shield. His immunity claims would protect him from all the legal proceedings that are impeding his reelection in November.

If he wins, he has promised his followers that he will pardon the insurrectionists of January 6, the people he sent to kill Pence and Pelosi because they were making his defeat official.  He claims he is being persecuted because he was fighting in the name of the people to fight the godless Democrats—and that is Chutzpah in the first degree. His attitude suggests the tale of the man who kills his parents and then asks for mercy because he is an orphan.

The only justice he believes in is the one he can dispense. He will never accept the adverse results of any election, and he will engage in the boldest form of demagoguery to attempt to convince people that he is their savior. Donald Trump is not above any trick, any illegality to achieve his objectives. We just must listen to his former lawyer, his former Attorney General, and the numerous former cabinet members who though he was crazy, unethical, and not very bright.

The fact that he found a way to gain the presidency doesn’t mean he is a genius—but he is the most successful political con man of any age. He won the presidency because most people only knew his clownish persona from a television show.

Let’s remember that he lost the popular vote in 2016 and in 2020. He lost to Clinton by more than 3 million votes and to Biden by double that number of votes. His ascent to the presidency in 2016 is the best reason to get rid of the electoral college. Trump is leaving an indelible mark in the history of this nation, but not in a good way. He will never be remembered for great heroism, great kindness, benevolence towards poor people around the world, or acts of charity at home.

His singular achievement was to get elected because he lied about who he is. He was never a good businessman, he never had a plan to solve any of the challenges of any presidency, he never believed in ethical principles, never showed respect for the military, and now we know he considers the Constitution to be an obstacle to his ambitions. Yes, there is a battle between Good and Evil, and we must resist the evil forces that Donald Trump represents.
