Actor and playwright Ángel Vázquez will present his acclaimed monologue “The Other Side of History” on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Teatro Esperanza in Philadelphia. Written and performed by Vázquez himself, the play offers a fresh perspective on the Puerto Rican experience in the United States, blending humor, music, and reflection in a captivating stage production.

Through the character of Sixto, a man who arrives in New York in search of his family inheritance, the audience is invited to rediscover the history of the Puerto Rican diaspora from a more human and optimistic point of view. Far from the popular stereotypes that have shaped cultural representations of Puerto Ricans, Vázquez presents “the other side” of that history: one of pride, resilience, and contribution to American society.

The performance, delivered in Spanish, combines theatrical and musical elements to emotionally connect with the audience, highlighting the importance of memory, identity, and belonging. It is a monologue that celebrates Puerto Rican identity from a new perspective.

“The Other Side of History” will be presented at Teatro Esperanza, located at 4261 North 5th Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Tickets are available for $15 for the general public, with free admission for students and individuals over 60 years old. For more information: : LA OTRA CARA DE LA HISTORIA – Esperanza Arts Center
