Hi there! Do you like saving money? If you’re anything like me, then saving a few dollars here and there definitely doesn’t hurt. As prices continue to rise, people have gotten more creative with how they stretch their budgets—and one of the smartest ways is by using technology to save on groceries. With computers and digital tools, you can save hundreds, even thousands of dollars every year!
You might be wondering how I got so good at spotting deals. Well, I owe that skill to my parents. Growing up, I helped them write out our weekly grocery list—item names, quantities, and prices. I’d cross things off as we shopped and (sometimes unwillingly!) track down anything they missed. I also helped clip coupons from the newspaper to save even more.
Now, that whole process is faster and easier thanks to technology. Take grocery lists, for example. As I’ve become more independent, keeping track of everything can get overwhelming. But I’ve found a trick: I use my smartphone—basically a minicomputer—to manage my grocery lists. Since I have an Android phone, I use Google Keep, a free app that lets you take notes and create lists. I just tap the plus icon, give the list a title, and add items with checkboxes. It helps me see what I need and what I already have. As soon as I grab an item, I check it off and it gets crossed out automatically.
Another way I use technology is to find deals online. Many stores offer digital coupons or lower prices on their websites. I take advantage of this by checking the store’s site before I even walk in. That way, I can see the weekly deals and how much I’ll save. And it’s not just for food—this works for other household items too. That’s actually how I scored super cheap tires online! I used the store’s search feature to find their online deals section. When I combine this with my digital list, I can estimate exactly how much I’ll spend.
