A car show was just the beginning what followed was a day of unity, pride, and shared purpose. This past Saturday, July 19, the Rumberos Jeep Club successfully hosted its benefit Car & Jeep Show at the intersection of American and Lehigh Avenue in North Philadelphia.

The occasional rain didn’t stop anyone from showing up, which did little to dampen the spirit or turnout, dozens of families, neighbors, local business owners, and car enthusiasts gathered to enjoy the exhibition, music, local flavors, and the event’s message of unity.

“This is the second year in a row we’ve held this event. It rained, but that’s a blessing from God. I’m incredibly happy with all the support we’ve received,” said Maribel Oquendo, club president, visibly moved by the public’s response.

A Tribute with Purpose

The event was dedicated to the memory of Don Ángel, a former member of the club, whose legacy was honored with deep respect and affection. Don Ángel passed away in October of last year. His family attended the event and was warmly embraced by all in attendance.

Beyond the tribute, the Car Show also had a charitable purpose: raising funds for Melony, a young girl in need of open-heart surgery, as well as collecting donations for the club’s annual Toy Drive and Back to School campaigns, which directly benefit low-income families in Philadelphia.

Culture and Local Entrepreneurship

For the first time, the event included local entrepreneurs who added a special flavor to the celebration. David Cortés showcased his collection of Puerto Rican souvenirs and memorabilia, highlighting the island’s cultural identity, while Sheila Muñiz offered a variety of traditional sweets that many described as true “blessings for the palate.”

Among the standout competitors of the day was Daniel Feliciano, who surprised attendees by entering two vehicles. “I’m more than happy for the opportunity to be with my people and support others in a charitable event like this,” he said.

More Than Cars: A Community Event

The event featured raffles, children’s activities, and live music by Los Bomberos de la Calle and local DJs, creating a festive, family-friendly atmosphere. Decorated vehicles, modified Jeeps, and powerful displays of cultural pride filled the street, catching the attention of both curious onlookers and die-hard motor fans.

A Legacy on the Move

“It’s an effort that comes from the heart,” said a club volunteer. Judging by the turnout and the energy throughout the day, that heart is beating strong for its people.

With Puerto Rican roots and a strong presence in the Philadelphia community, Rumberos Jeep Club continues to strengthen its outreach by blending a love of vehicles with a passion for helping others. This second Car Show has become a powerful platform for connection, celebration, and solidarity one that’s leaving a lasting mark on the city.
