Philadelphia celebrates the inauguration of the district attorney, city controller, and elected judges

The City of Philadelphia held the official inauguration ceremony on January 5, for the District Attorney, the City Controller, and judges of the local judicial system, during an event held at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.

During the ceremony, presided over by Mayor Cherelle L. Parker, District Attorney-elect Larry Krasner, City Controller-elect Christy Brady, as well as judges of the Court of Common Pleas and the Municipal Court both newly elected and retention judges were sworn into office.

The event brought together leaders of the judicial system, elected officials, members of the clergy, and community members, highlighting the city’s commitment to justice, transparency, and public service. The ceremony was presided over by the City Representative and Director of Special Events, Jazelle Jones.

As the new term begins, District Attorney Larry Krasner reiterated the importance of working hand in hand with the community to strengthen public safety and trust.
“I ask the people of Philadelphia, who care about others, to share their ideas on how we can improve,” he stated.

The ceremony included an interfaith invocation with the participation of Christian, Jewish, and Muslim leaders, as well as musical performances by Paula Holloway, who performed the National Anthem, and the Leviticus Ensemble with Lift Every Voice and Sing.

The inauguration marks the formal beginning of a new term for the elected officials and reaffirms Philadelphia’s commitment to an accessible, fair, and community-centered judicial system.
