Renowned Colombian singer Nidia Góngora, one of the most iconic voices from Colombia’s Pacific region, will perform this Saturday, March 21, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Teatro Esperanza, as part of her U.S. tour.

Winner of the Shock Award and a Latin Grammy nominee, Góngora is widely recognized for her ability to blend the traditional music of her hometown, Timbiquí (Cauca), with contemporary global sounds, creating a distinctive artistic voice that connects ancestral roots with worldwide rhythms.

The performance is part of VOCES, a series by the Esperanza Arts Center (EAC) that this year highlights the Indigenous cultural traditions of Latin America and the Caribbean.

A sonic journey to the heart of the Pacific

During the concert, the audience will be invited to experience something unique. According to the artist, her show is “a journey to Colombia’s Pacific,” where marimba sounds, traditional chants, and fusions with genres like jazz, funk, and tropical music come together.

Beyond the music, the artist seeks to create a deep connection with the audience:
“Music is a universal language that transforms and recharges the soul. We want people to reconnect with their essence and with others through respect and humanity,” she expressed.

Music with a social purpose

In addition to her artistic career, Góngora leads community initiatives in Colombia, working with children and youth in vulnerable environments through music, art, and values-based education focused on coexistence and peace. She also promotes female-led economic projects that benefit families in her region.

An invitation to the community

The artist extended a special invitation to Philadelphia’s Latino and multicultural community:
“You are all warmly invited to experience ‘Pacífico Maravilla,’ a project born from the jungle, the river, and the sea, aiming to transform lives through music.”
