On August 30th, Taíno Studios celebrated its grand opening at the historic Bok Building in South Philadelphia with a vibrant portrait party that brought together artists, entrepreneurs, families, and friends from across the city. The event marked the launch of a new creative hub rooted in visual storytelling, cultural pride, and community care.
Founded by Dominican-Puerto Rican visual storyteller Christopher Cruz, Taíno Studios offers professional photo and video services, educational workshops, and a welcoming space for creatives to collaborate and grow. The studio is designed to be more than a workspace—it’s a place where identity and creativity intersect.
“This isn’t just a place to take beautiful pictures,” said Cruz. “It’s a place built to serve and grow alongside the creatives and changemakers we collaborate with”
During the grand opening, guests were invited to sit for free professional portraits, enjoy music and refreshments, and experience the warmth and authenticity that defines the studio’s mission. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, pride, and a strong sense of belonging.
The name Taíno Studios honors the Taíno people—Indigenous ancestors of many Caribbean communities—and reflects a commitment to legacy, identity, and purposeful creation. Now operating out of the Bok Building, the studio serves individuals and organizations across Philadelphia.
