During my time here, I had numerous positive experiences with my teachers, who generously helped me with various aspects of my education, improving my grades, filling out FAFSA forms, and even preparing for job interviews. Given that my parents did not speak English and were unable to assist me with these matters, my teachers’ guidance was invaluable. These experiences inspired me to return to Esperanza Academy to lend my support to children in the community facing similar challenges to those I once faced.»

They understand that my classroom is a safe space where we can laugh and have fun. Our students want teachers they can relate to; they desire to be around people who see them for who they are. My students love it when I remember their favorite sports player or when I notice a new hairstyle. When they recognize that I genuinely care about their interests, opinions, and ideas, my students value our class time more deeply. The relationships that I’ve built with the students here at Esperanza Academy help make the tough days a lot easier to tackle.»

I have been working at Esperanza Academy for 21 years and have seen many students graduate and succeed; a number of them have returned and are now serving in different capacities. Witnessing how far they’ve come is one of the greatest rewards in this field.»
