Six months after taking ownership of The Pines Eatery & Spirits, Carlos Monclus has transformed the iconic Hazleton establishment into more than just a restaurant—it’s become a vibrant community hub that celebrates the area’s diverse culture while honoring its storied past.
When Monclus acquired the restaurant in October 2024, he brought with him not just a decade of restaurant industry experience, but a well-established reputation as a community leader. As the Food Pantry Manager for the Hazleton Community Resource Center Inc., Monclus was already known for his dedication to serving others, helping provide food for over 200 families weekly.
Located in the heart of Hazleton at 8 West Broad Street, The Pines has maintained its American cuisine foundations while expanding its menu to include culturally diverse offerings. Their Dominican Sweet Beans have quickly become a customer favorite, representing Monclus’s commitment to celebrating the area’s multicultural character.

Weekly events like Saturday Karaoke nights and the popular Taco Tuesday special (three tacos for $8.95) have energized the restaurant’s atmosphere, drawing longtime customers and newcomers alike. A recent wine and cheese tasting event proved particularly successful, with attendees sampling curated selections while mingling with fellow community members.
The establishment has also introduced a popular Happy Hour running Monday through Friday from 4 PM to 6 PM, offering specially priced drinks and appetizers that have made The Pines a favorite after-work destination for local professionals and friends gathering to unwind.
As an active member of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce, Monclus has leveraged his community connections to make The Pines a centerpiece of local gatherings. The restaurant has hosted fundraisers for area nonprofits, provided catering for community events, and created employment opportunities for residents.
The Pines Eatery & Spirits welcomes guests seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Enjoy breakfast daily until noon, convenient go-pickup, and a Sunday buffet.

Carlos Monclus describes The Pines Eatery & Spirits as «a beautiful place, with a welcoming atmosphere and a lot of history.» Monclus wants the entire Hazeltown community to be a part of it.
The restaurant is now preparing for its special Mother’s Day celebration on May 11. The elaborate menu includes Italian Focaccia, Mini Empanadas, Pollo Cordon Bleu, grilled Churrasco with tostones, honey-glazed salmon, and desserts including brownies with ice cream and fried ice cream. The Mother’s Day event exemplifies Monclus’s approach: creating memorable experiences that honor family and community.
