Working together: Dr. Evelyn Núñez and her educational plan at Esperanza Academy

With pride and excitement, Esperanza Academy Charter School opens a new chapter in its educational history with the inauguration of its elementary school. Evelyn Núñez, CEO & Superintendent of the institution, shared with Impacto the details of this important achievement for the community.

“We are super happy and proud of this new project. After so many years, we have achieved the goal of opening the elementary school at Esperanza Academy,” Núñez expressed.

Starting in August, the new building will welcome 750 students from kindergarten through fifth grade, completing the vision of an educational journey that accompanies students from early childhood through high school graduation. “This achievement comes from the dream of providing education from kindergarten to 12th grade. We started 25 years ago with the high school, then added the middle school, and now we take this big step,” she said.

Modern facilities and culturally relevant curriculum

The new building, under construction for four years, is equipped with everything necessary for a top-quality educational experience: “We have spacious classrooms, a gymnasium, a cafeteria with meals prepared by our team, as well as music, art, technology programs, and a STEM lab,” Núñez explained.

But beyond the facilities, Esperanza’s vision is educational and cultural. The school will offer a bilingual and inclusive curriculum. “The curriculum will be in English and Spanish, but we will also teach students about their culture. They will have readings that reflect who they are and where they come from.”

Impact on the community

The opening of this school also represents progress for the neighborhood: “It is a pride to be able to accept a five-year-old child and walk with them for 12 years. We want to prepare them to go to college or pursue the career they choose,” said the executive director.

For Núñez, the project’s success is not achieved alone.
“We understand that we can’t do this work alone. This is a commitment to our community, to our families. We must collaborate and work as a team to raise our children.”

From challenges to pride

The path to building this school was not without obstacles, but the focus now is on what has been accomplished.
“We heard many things and faced many challenges, but today we feel proud. We already know the parents and students, and everyone is eager to start.

A message of commitment

At the close of the conversation, Evelyn Núñez shared her greatest wish as the leader of this new project: “I want us to be able to educate every student. The teachers, leaders, and parents work together to prepare young people who graduate, return to their community, and serve. Who are able to remember the quality education they received.”

She concluded with a clear invitation:
“I want to welcome everyone to Esperanza Academy. We are here to serve the students, their families, and this community.”
