Pride of Juniata, Philadelphia! The youth baseball team Juniata Elite, led by Puerto Rican coach Joel López, left an unforgettable mark this season. After competing in several summer tournaments across states like New Jersey and Maryland, they closed with a golden finish becoming champions of the Caribbean World Series 2025, held in Puerto Rico in July, where they earned the Champion Chip title and a silver ring in the 16U category.

Most recently, Juniata Elite shone at the prestigious Youth World Series Maryland Tournament, where they faced 32 teams from different states and earned a well-deserved third place, bringing home the bronze medal. Every play, sacrifice, and training session reflected the heart, talent, and unstoppable determination of these young athletes.

The excitement experienced by families was indescribable, especially in Puerto Rico—where the energy and enthusiasm at every game echoed with pride and hope. “New experiences aren’t just about training. Even if you don’t have support, it’s about giving them something to motivate them and keep them off the streets. I’m proud of Juniata and what we’ve achieved,” said Joel López, coach and founder of the team, who leads this sports project with passion and commitment that goes far beyond competition.

“As a mother, I can’t even describe the emotion I felt at every game. But what I enjoyed most was the experience in Puerto Rico each game was unforgettable, and the energy and excitement from all the parents there was indescribable.”

The team is made up of Puerto Rican and Dominican youth who, through baseball, find new opportunities to grow, learn from other cultures, and strengthen their sense of community.

More than just a 16U travel team, Juniata Elite is a family that inspires, represents, and transforms the lives of young people in Philadelphia and beyond.
