Philadelphia – In an effort to expand access to financial services in communities with limited access to traditional banking, Ceiba Collective welcomed the PNC Mobile Branch Unit on Thursday, June 25, outside its offices near Norris Square Park.
The bank on wheels is part of PNC Bank’s mobile banking program, an initiative designed to bring financial services directly to historically underserved neighborhoods.
“We are excited to bring this resource to our community and to connect people to a trusted financial institution. Boosting economic mobility starts with banking accessibility and with banks meeting residents where they are. Our community needs direct access to banking, and banks need to be more engaged with our people. The mobile banking unit accomplishes both at the same time,” said Natalia Hernández Berríos, Program Coordinator at Ceiba.
For more than 15 years, PNC Bank has operated a fleet of mobile units to provide in-person banking services to customers and residents. Through the Mobile Branch Unit, visitors can open bank accounts, apply for lines of credit, mortgages, and credit cards, as well as use free ATM services.
The visit marked the first time the PNC Mobile Branch Unit provided services at Norris Square Park.
As part of the community event, Ceiba offered complimentary water ice to attendees and created a festive atmosphere with live music by Los Rumberos Jeep Club.
The organization announced that the PNC Mobile Branch Unit will return to Norris Square Park on Thursday, July 9, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and encourages residents to take advantage of the opportunity to complete banking transactions and speak with bankers about available financial services.
Ceiba is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the economic development and financial inclusion of the Latino community through collaboration, advocacy, and access to quality housing. The organization also serves as the backbone of the Ceiba Collective.
