If I only had a brain… MAGA needs a new song.
Many of us have seen The Wizard of Oz, where the Scarecrow sings to Dorothy the song “If I Only Had a Brain.” Please take a moment and listen to it, and hear the benefits of having a brain.
Well, it seems we all need to listen again to the songs and characters of this movie classic to help us understand what is lacking in our American political hot mess.
In The Wizard of Oz, this story seems to be playing out in the presidential cabinet, in Congress, and in the Republican Party. They would protest the lies, racism, and harmful, cruel, and illegal actions of this president if they only had a brain.
The Cowardly Lion sought courage from the Wizard. Today, too many good men and women are afraid to show courage and stand up to one man. How can we expect them to defend our country and Constitution if they have no morals or ethics—if they fear a man and his MAGA machine?
And like the Tin Man, they need a heart, so that they can love. If they had a heart full of love, they would not tolerate the hate and violence of this right-wing, inhumane administration. In The Wizard of Oz, the Tin Man needed a heart, symbolizing his desire for love and compassion. They would, if they had a heart, demand that this administration take care of the poor and sick, both here and abroad.
Throughout the story, the Lion expressed his desire to have courage so he could feel brave and confident. The Scarecrow wanted a brain so he could do the right thing, and the Tin Man wanted a heart so he could show compassion.
We are all dismayed by the cabinet and the congressmen and women who follow a convicted felon, one who has no morals, but does have a dark heart and a mind full of racism and vengeance.
There never was a crisis at the border, nor in Los Angeles, nor in Washington, D.C. There were never immigrants eating cats and dogs, nor were there millions of criminals let in by Biden. Also, it was a vast, unfounded lie that the head of the Bureau of Labor was summarily fired for allegedly falsifying the jobs report. All these actions are based on complete lies. Those politicians carrying out these illegal actions should be shamed—not only by us, but by their children, grandchildren, and by history.
And still, the tariffs, according to Trump, will give us a 500 percent or even 1,000 percent benefit on drugs. After 100 percent, the administration would basically be paying people to get the drug.
And they need to admit that MS-13 is a gang founded in Los Angeles in the early 1980s, not in El Salvador, making it a U.S. gang.
By now, the MAGA crowd says gas and eggs are almost free, and that the tax cuts given to the ultra-rich will benefit the poor and middle class—we are told—more of the same absurd package of lies.
And at the same time, the Evangelical Trump supporters should remember that the only church Trump attended regularly was run by Jeffrey Epstein and filled with young girls and lecherous, rich white men.
In the months ahead, many individuals —including plenty of white folks in red states— will lose benefits as the new Trump programs go into effect.
Now that Homeland has rounded up so many brown-skinned workers from farms, construction sites, yards, taco trucks, hotels, and restaurants, most of them with no criminal background, it has opened positions for “qualified” white folks to take these jobs and reclaim these parts of the economy. I hope we can get pictures of these right-wing white folks harvesting crops or operating a weed blower or a hedge trimmer for 10–12 hours a day, earning the meager amounts workers are now paid.
We all wish they could get a double dose of WOKE.
We can only hope that these right-wing folks just might do the right thing—if they only had a brain.
