Citadel Credit Union to open new Hunting Park branch in partnership with Esperanza

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Citadel Credit Union announced on August 11 that it will open a new branch in the Hunting Park neighborhood of North Philadelphia as part of its expansion strategy and commitment to serving communities across the city.

The not-for-profit financial institution has signed a lease for what will become its third Philadelphia branch. Located at 133 W. Hunting Park Avenue, the branch is expected to open in 2027. The project is being developed in partnership with Esperanza, one of the nation’s largest Hispanic faith-based nonprofit organizations and the owner of the building.

According to Citadel, the new location is intended to be more than a traditional banking office. The branch will provide financial services, financial education, community programming, and resources for families and small businesses, helping to support economic growth in the neighborhood.

“We’ve always believed the most important thing we can do is show up. Not just to open a branch but to genuinely earn a place in a community,” said Bill Brown, President and CEO of Citadel Credit Union. “Hunting Park has deep roots, proud people and real opportunity. Partnering with Esperanza means we’re not arriving as outside institutions. We’re coming in as neighbors, ready to listen and grow alongside the people we’re here to serve.”

The new branch represents the latest chapter in Citadel’s growing presence in Philadelphia. The credit union opened its first city branch in Overbrook Park in January 2026 and plans to open a second location later this year in Cedar Park on Baltimore Avenue. With the addition of Hunting Park, Citadel will expand its reach into North Philadelphia, where more than 17,000 of its members already live, work, or study.

Esperanza’s involvement is a key component of the project. For the past four decades, the organization has worked to transform Hunting Park through housing, workforce development, education, economic development, and arts initiatives. Esperanza reports having invested more than $300 million in community resources and serves approximately 35,000 low-income residents annually.

“Trust in Hunting Park is built block by block. That’s what forty years here has taught us,” said Rev. Luis Cortés Jr., founder and CEO of Esperanza. “Citadel showed up ready to invest the same way. This branch gives our neighbors a place to build wealth in their own neighborhood. That’s what real investment looks like.”

The branch will offer Citadel’s full range of personal and business banking services, mortgage lending, and financial counseling. It will also serve as a gathering place for financial education workshops, neighborhood events, and community-focused programming.
