Philadelphia, PA – As October approaches, Women Against Abuse, Inc., Philadelphia’s leading domestic violence service provider, is preparing to mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a series of impactful community events aimed at raising awareness, supporting survivors, and building a safer future for all.
The centerpiece of the month’s activities is the 18th annual iPledge® Campaign, which will kick off on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Noon in the courtyard of Philadelphia City Hall. This year’s theme, HOPE, serves as a powerful call to action—reminding us that a better tomorrow is possible and that everyone has a role to play in ending relationship abuse.
The event will be hosted by Loraine Ballard Morrill, award-winning Director of News and Community Affairs for iHeartMedia Philadelphia and host of Insight on WDAS FM and Power 99 FM. The program will open with a performance by Drexel University’s 8 to the Bar a cappella group.
Women Against Abuse will present the 2025 Social Impact Award to The Honorable Joanna E. McClinton, Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, in recognition of her historic leadership and unwavering advocacy for survivors and communities across the state.
Mayor Cherelle Parker has been invited to deliver the keynote address, and Philadelphia City Council will lead attendees in a collective pledge against violence.
“Amid today’s challenging landscape, the iPledge® Campaign reminds us that hope is powerful,” said Joanna Otero-Cruz, Executive Director and President of Women Against Abuse. “When we harness our collective strength and commitment, we can prevent relationship violence, save lives, and create a safe Philadelphia where every person can thrive.”
The public is encouraged to attend and sign the pledge against violence. More details are available at iPledgeWAA.org. Official hashtag: #iPledgeBecause.
